Designed for near and deep-sky observation with a fast focal ratio for astrophotography/imaging, Celestron's AstroMaster 130EQ 130mm f/5 Reflector Telescope features a 650mm focal length and a spherical mirror.

The scope is outfitted with a 1.25 rack-and-pinion focuser and two eyepieces to get new users started: a 10mm that yields 65x power and a 20mm for a 32.5x magnification. The 20mm eyepiece integrates an erecting system to correct images horizontally and vertically to allow easy terrestrial use. An unmagnified red-dot finder is also included to help set-up, align and navigate easier.

The included manual equatorial mount features slow-motion control cables make it easy to track objects even when wearing gloves, while also minimizing vibrations caused by handling the mount with your hands; and clearly visible indicators on the Right Ascension and Declination axes. An adjustable-height aluminum tripod rounds out the rig with a tray for accessories such as eyepieces, filters, and lights.

  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use a zoom eyepiece with the telescope

A: As far as I know as long as the eye piece is 1.25 it is compatible with the telescope. I personally have the celestron 1.25 lens & filter kit.

Q: 2. Can you use a dslr camera with the celestron astromaster 130eq ?

A: I'd add that Celestron only has T-Rings for Canon EOS and Nikon cameras. Bummer for me, since I have neither. On their web site Celestron recommends using the Universal Barlow & T-Adapter (#93649) with most Newtonians. I got the Barlow as part of their Accessory Kit, and have enjoyed it (without being able to attach my DSLR camera).FWIW I have the 114EQ and there is a bolt for mounting a camera on one of my tube rings.

Q: 3. Can I mount my cell phone to this telescope for photos?

A: Yes, you can mount Celestron's Basic Smartphone Adapter or NexYZ 3-Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter to the AstroMaster 130EQ to take photos with most cell phones.

Q: 4. Why is this variant, the one with the motor, cheaper than the model without?

A: The AstroMaster 130EQ-MD regularly is priced higher than the non-MD version. You may want to ask the dealer for pricing details. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 5. does Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ have a parabolic mirror?

A: The AstroMaster 130EQ has a spherical mirror. Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

    Q: 6. Can I attach a Sony a6000 with E-Mount to a Celestron Astromaster 130 eq?

A: Yes, you will need the Celestron Universal Barlow and T-Adapter #93640 and a T/T2 Mount Lens Adapter Ring for Sony a6000 which Celestron does not offer.

Q: 7. What kind of a tripod do you use?

A: A suitable tripod is included.

Q: 8. Can an Olympus Tough TG-5 be adapted to the telescope?

A: Yes it can with the Konus Universal Digiscoping Adapter for Point-and-Shoot Cameras and Smartphones BH #KOUNVRSLADPT • MFR #1301 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1221463-REG/konus_1301_universal_digiscoping_adapter.html

Q: 9. Looking at 3 different telescopes and would like recommendation?

A: What are the other two telescopes you are looking at in addition to the AstroMaster 130EQ-MD Reflector Telescope?

Q: 10. Which one is better for Astrophotography for planets, the ASTROMASTER 130EQ or the ASTROMASTER 90EQ for detail and resolution?

A: For planetary viewing, I would go for the 90EQ. The added focal length helps a bit. With my 130EQ, a 2x Barlow, and an 8-24mm zoom eyepiece, I can see Saturn pretty clearly, but the 90EQ (which I also just acquired) has the extra magnification factor to bring it closer. It's noticeably dimmer with the 90EQ, but still visible. With that said, if your going to do ANYTHING other than planetary, the 130EQ wins every time! Just as cubic inches is king in drag racing, aperture is king in astronomy!
