Defining photography is impossible. Revealing it is another matter, and that's what The Concise Focal Encyclopedia of Photography does, with each turn of the page.

History: The technical origins and evolution of photography are half of the story. The other half consists of the ways that cultural forces have transformed photography into a constellation of practices more diverse than any other mode of representation. Photographers can tell a more in-depth story through a photo like Dorothea Lange's "Migrant Mother" than a journalist ever could with the written word alone.

Major themes and practitioners: Over 25 entries, many with supporting illustrations, examine the figures, trends, and ideas that have contributed most heavily to the history and current state of photography.

Contemporary issues: The issues influencing photography today are more complex than at any other time in its history. Questions of ethics, desire, perception, digitization, and commercialization all vie for attention. Hear what the experts have to say about crucial issues such as whether or not the images we take today will last the test of time, and if so, how?

When material is covered this skillfully, "concise" is no compromise. The Concise Focal Encyclopedia of Photography is packed with useful information, compelling ideas, and - best of all - pure pleasure.

Readership: Photography enthusiasts, teachers, students, collectors.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are there any side pockets to hold filters , cleaning stuff etc?

A: There is one side zip pocket, 1 filter in a case will be safe... two however will likely be a tight fit if you are packing a gripped body.

Q: 2. Is Holster 20 capable of a Nikon D850 with the mb-d18 battery pack fit, or is the holster 40 required? Lens lengths are modest, it's all about the body size with the drive. I cannot afford big lenses anyway, I already spent for the image size. Just a simple 24-120mm F4 EG VR is used.

A: The Digital Holster 40 V2.0 would be better suited for your particular Nikon set-up.

Q: 3. Will a D810 with battery pack and Nikon 24 - 120 1:4 fit?

A: Yes this bag can accommodate a Nikon D800 equipped with a battery grip and the AF-S 24-120mm f/4 lens.

Q: 4. Will the Fujifilm 150-600mm lens with Fujifilm XT3 fit in this bag?

A: The Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 50 V2.0 will fit the Fuji XT3 camera and 150-600mm lens.

Q: 5. Will this holster bag accommodate a Nikon D3s with Nikon 300mm f/4 AF ED (Screwdriver AF lens)?

A: I use Canon so I can't say whether your Nikon body and lens will fit or not, but measuring the interior demensions of the bag with the nose extension zipped it is 12 inches deep. Unzip the nose and the bag extends to 15 inches deep. The extension bellows is a slightly padded Cordura nylon fabric. The top opening is a good 7 by 7 1/2 inches. The quality of the materials is first rate and the manufacturing workmanship of the bag is absolutely flawless. The shoulder strap is just adequate. Tamrac curved padded shoulder straps are much better. Over all, I would strongly recommend this bag if its size fits your needs.

Q: 6. Will a Nikon Z8 with battery grip and RRS L Bracket fit with a Z100-400 mm lens attached?

A: Yes, the Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 50 V2.0 (Black) fits the Nikon Z8 with battery grip and RRS L bracket with the Nikon Z 100-400 attached.

Q: 7. Will a Nikon Z9 with 180-600mm Fit ?

A: Yes, the Think Tank Photo V3 Digital Holster 150 (XX-Large) will fit the Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Lens (Nikon Z) attached.

Q: 8. Is there room for anything else inside the holster?

A: No, not really. Only small flat things like memory cards and lens caps

Q: 9. Can this be attached to a webbed belt?

A: It is designed to be used solo with the included strap or it can be attached to a Think Tank Belt or any similar type of thick sturdy belt.....however I recomend attaching the Pixel Harness to the belt for support. If used on a belt without a Pixel harness, you may find the holster...and your pants...down around your ankles !

Q: 10. Will this hold Nikon D850 with battery grip and Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E FL VR lens attached?

A: Yes, the Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 50 V2.0 will support a pro body and pro dslr with a battery grip and your lens combo.
