A: I used this particular combination with a Canon 5D this summer in Alaska. The combo was extremely easy to pack and set up. It was sturdy enough using a up to a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. The hook on the center column was convieniet to use to hang the carrying case loaded with extra weight in windy conditions. Even though I have an L-bracket it is not needed because the ball head comes with an Acra-Swiss compatible.

A: I have one square Peak Design plate with a screw in the middle of the plate. It does not fit my Gitzo 1385TQD because the screw has 14mm diameter and it touches the safety pin. Solution (if you want to keep the safety pin): use a different screw with a small head similar to the B107 Screw (1/4"-20 Thread) that locks with M2.5 Hex Key. Another solution is to find a screw with a low profile head. By the way, the JOBY Ballhead X plate and JOBY QR Plate 5K can be used thanks to low profile screw head.
