Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would you attach a Black Rapid strap to this grip and walk around without concern? The real Nikon grip would give me that confidence. Will the Vello?

A: I recently purchased the Bg-N17 for the D500 and have now tested it for over a week. I am not entirely sure as to the structural integrity of the grip when it comes to Black Rapid straps, however I can say that the grip attachment to the camera itself is rock solid. I may recommend testing the strap of choice and the camera-grip combo, but I think it should work fine.

Q: 2. How about Battery Life? Is it the same as Shogun Inferno?

A: With a 5200mah Battery, the kind found in B&H # ATOMPWRKT1, you will get around 3 hours of operation time. The battery life is very good with this monitor. https://bhpho.to/2T5VQv0

Q: 3. I just installed my new grip yesterday. After reading the Vello manual, I am not sure when to activate or de-activate 'control lock switch". Should it be activated after turning -on the camera switch ? and when turning off the camera should it be turn-off after ?

A: The purpose of the Control Lock is to prevent any possible electrical damage to it or the camera. Therefore, make sure the grip Control Switch is in the L position whenever attaching/removing the grip or inserting/removing the battery. Otherwise you can leave it in the on position.

Q: 4. Can this be used in place of my camera lcd screen for stills in macro photography?

A: The answer depends on your camera. Please write us provideo@bhphoto.com

Q: 5. Does it eliminate 30min recoridng limit with EOS RP and R6?

A: No, this is not a recording monitor so you will still have the 30 minute recording time limit.

Q: 6. How much latency does it have?

A: The latency is dependent on the camera sources processing of the image and the HDMI cable that's connected to the Shinobi 5.2" monitor.

Q: 7. I have read that Sony batteries are compatible with this product, is there any specific type of Sony batteries to recommend for this?

A: This monitor uses Sony NP-F style batteries. Atomos offers this Power Kit for Shogun/Ninja Inferno & Flame, B&H # ATOMPWRKT1, which has a pair of NP-F750 batteries and a charger. https://bhpho.to/2T5VQv0

Q: 8. Do I need to buy the BL-5 Cover separately to be able to use this with the EN-EL18b Battery?

A: The EN-EL18b requires a BL-5 cover, not included with a grip. Its more than a cover as it actually holds the battery. I use a EN-EL18 battery which works fine with the Nikon made battery grip and BL-5 cover. While it all fits in the BG-N19-b with the EN-EL18 it did not connect properly to the D850. Thus Im returning the BG-N19-b. The BL-5/EN-EL18 works fine in another non-Nikon battery grip with a D500.

Q: 9. Can you power it with d tap? If so what accessories do you need?

A: Unfortunately it doesn't look like we currently carry D-Tap power options for the Atomos Shinobi 5.2" 4K HDMI Monitor.

Q: 10. Has anyone checked the frame rate when using 8 AA Alkaline (1.5 volt) vs 8 AA NiMH (1.25 volt rechargeable) batteries?

A: With fresh and or fully charged batteries, the frame should be the same, no difference.
