The OctaMic II from RME is an 8 channel microphone/line preamplifier that also provides pristine analog-to-digital conversion of all channels. Low distortion, excellent signal-to-noise ration and highly linear frequency response all contribute to the ability of the unit to transmit and amplify an accurate representation of the source.

The analog-to-digital converter delivers 8 channels of pristine digital output, available as double ADAT output (S/MUX up to 96kHz) and simultaneously as 4 AES outputs (up to 192kHz) via a DB-25 connector. The converter can be clocked internally as a master, or externally via word clock and AES sync, while SteadyClock technology ensures the very best sound quality even with a jittery external clock.

8-channel microphone/line preamp with 8-channels of analog-to-digital conversion

Low distortion with linear frequency response provides clear and transparent preamplification

Each channel features a gain control along with switches for enabling phantom power, a high-pass filter and phase reverse

Per channel LEDs indicate phantom power status, signal presence and a clip indicator

When activated, a "Clip Hold" button prompts any corresponding clip LED to flash once a second when an overload is detected on that particular channel

8, short-circuit protected, low-impedance and servo-balanced line outputs can have their reference level changed simultaneously, via a front panel switch, to aid in maintaining optimum output levels

The 8-channel analog-to-digital conversion operates at up to 192kHz

Digital output is available simultaneously at the two ADAT outputs, allowing for S/MUX operation up to 96kHz, and at a DB-25 connector delivering 4 AES/EBU outputs, up to 192kHz

Analog outputs and both digital outputs operate simultaneously

SteadyClock ensures near perfect conversion by almost completely removing jitter on any external sync source

Q: 1. What is Digital Image Stabilization? How does it compare with the 5 point of the A7R Mk2, please?

A: It only has Electronic SteadyShot for Movie recording, so it wouldn't compare at all to the in-body 5-axxis system on the A7.

Q: 2. Can I disable most of the info on the display? When I look at these Sony camera's they appear to me like a game station. All I need if Focus point & confirmation, S, A and ISO

A: Yes you have that option.

Q: 3. Approx. how many shots can be made on one battery charge?

A: the battery does run out by end of shooting, depending on how much you use functions. it is worth having a back up

Q: 4. I see this camera lists the option to shoot photos in the 1:1 ratio. Will this camera allow a photographer to shoot in the 1:1 ratio in RAW file mode? Thus providing 1;1 (square) raw files?

A: Let me clarify. When you set the camera to raw you can select 1:1. What you see in the viewfinder and on the LCD are 1:1, ie, square. When you import the file into Lightroom (and I believe also C1 but haven't tried it) what you see is the square image that you framed. However when you click on the crop tool the whole 3:2 image is there and you can reframe your 1:1 image or you can go back to the original 3x2 image. If you choose the 3x2 image you have the full 42mpx (5304x7952( image so nothing is lost. If you choose the 1:1 square image the square crop file image size is 5296x5296 or 28mpx (I said 26mpx above which is what I had read before receiving the camera but these numbers are taken from my lightroom files.

Q: 6. No mention of exposure bracketing in the spec, has this been omitted, or is it no longer available on this model?

A: The RX1R II does have exposure bracketing, yes.

Q: 7. This is not a mirrorless camera, correct?

A: Yes. It is a mirrorless camera. It uses an electronic viewfinder.

Q: 8. Is there a wide angle converter that will work with this camera?

A: There is no Sony wide angle converter for this camera.

Q: 9. What is the Dynamic Range or the DSC-RX1R ll?

A: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II Digital Camera has a dynamic range of 13.9 EVs.

Q: 10. what is the fastest the camera can write/read an SDXC card for still pics? The 280 mb/s is about double the $ over the 95 mb/s card. Anyone know?

A: The manufactures do not list how fast it actually records an image or video to a card.It is a fast camera but most cameras today will not see that speed card. And the 280 MB/s card is UHS 2 and that camera and most are compatible with UHS 1. So that would not be a card I would use in the camera. For still photos the 95 MB/s is fine. In general you do want to use the fastest card for video. That helps prevent issues and corruption while recording video which is a lot of data.
