It fits perfectly and I can't complain except for the fact that the Befree may be a tiny bit too light for video work in the field (but I'm really satisfied so far). As for your carbon fiber, I wouldn't know; maybe it'll be too light or maybe you'll find a way. But to answer your original question: yes it will work with the Manfrotto Befree.

A: It's a little different, it's longer and works a little differently. But they can be used on this head. I have the 701 also, and I can use the 701's plate on this head. But the plate that comes with this head is longer. Also, this had his top loading, while the previous heads were rear loading, as in, you slid the plate in from the rear.But to answer your question, no this is not the same plate.But to add to it, yes you can use your old plates on this new head and vice versa, they are interchangeable.
