The cocoa E6i (TA4F) from Countryman is a miniature, omnidirectional, earset condenser microphone designed for accurate voice reproduction (speaking and singing) and near-invisible appearance in theater, concerts, lectures, houses or worship, and more. It features a water- and wind-resistant capsule that delivers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. The omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from all directions and should be used when feedback is not common.

The 5’ detachable cable has a diameter of 2mm, and features a TA4F connector for compatibility with Shure transmitters. The E6i offers a flexible boom for versatile placement. The three protective caps yield different high-end frequency presence. The supplied windscreen protects the condenser element, and reduces plosives and wind noise. Cable clips and a carrying case are included.

A miniature omnidirectional capsule is mounted to a low-profile, flexible frame with silicon ear section. This lightweight, unobtrusive design is available in various colors that virtually render the entire microphone invisible against the skin. For more information on which color earset suits you best, refer to the Countryman support page.

The included 2mm diameter cable detaches from the actual headset, making it completely replaceable in the event of a short or break. The replaceable cable design makes upgrading wireless microphone systems easy, as they are available in a wide selection of connections to accommodate various wireless transmitters. The Duramax 2mm diameter cable provides extra strength, flexibility and durability.

The omnidirectional polar pattern is most effective in minimizing wind noise, plosives (popping) and handling noise. The flexible boom provides a custom fit for multiple users and close microphone positioning while minimizing off-axis noise. The E6i is also available in a cardioid version for maximum off-axis noise rejection in environments with high feedback and noise.

This E6i sensitivity response is optimized to accurately capture both speech and vocal performances without noise and distortion.

Q: 3. Can this start and stop video?

A: Not with my cameras. I have an Alpha 99, A77ii and r7s and the Movie button does not appear to be able to be programmed to be controlled by the shutter release.Just finished checking my A99 How To book by Gary Friedman in which he clearly states that the shutter release can be engaged for stills in some very specific combinations of settings while in Movie mode. I found nothing to lead me to believe that the Movie button can be programmed to be controlled by a custom button. The short answer seems to be no as best I can tell.

Q: 7. I am trying to use this for my new Sony A9 and it doesn't appear to be working. I hit the shutter release button and nothing happens. Although it will take a picture if I hit the start/stop button. Fresh batteries on the Shutterboss, so that isn't the problem. Connection is good and solid. I even ordered a second one and tried that and had the same problem. What might the problem be?

A: Hi Corey, I'm not sure I can assist you with the A9 but on a recent trip to NY, I purchased this unit for the A7RII. With the A7RII the unit has worked flawlessly. I had a hard time finding a unit with these capabilities which was compatible with my camera and was hesitant to purchase given some feedback on a number of other units. Here is what I have found. Not only does the remote work with my A7RII, it also works well with my RX100mV. While all new cameras have a few teething problems, can I suggest that you remove the batteries and see if the unit triggers the camera as a simple remote. If it works, maybe there is a problem with the remote. If it doesn't then go to the camera settings and do a full reset of the camera setting (just in case something has been accidentally changed in the menu's. If the remote still doesn't work I would suggest letting Sony know. There are always firmware updates which address these type of issues once products have been on the market and field tested. Good luck. Cheers, Jim

Q: 8. The manual says autofocus on the remote shutter release is not compatible with back-button focusing on some camera models. Can anyone confirm whether it's compatible with back-button focus on the EOS 6D?

A: The Vello ShutterBoss II will not AutoFocus when the camera is set to Back-Button Focus. It will simply trigger the shutter. If you wish to AutoFocus from the remote, you will need to turn off Back-Button Focus.
