Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi what is the outer diameter of this Step-up Ring?Actually I am looking for a Push-on lens cap...Any brand that you recommend, which fits?Thank you

A: Rather than a push-on cap, you will be better off using a Hood Hat type of covering, such as those seen at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1w9ZAZT

Q: 2. is this 43x0.5 or 43x0.75?

A: The Heliopan 43-46mm Step-Up Ring (#243) has a 0.75 thread pitch.

Q: 3. If I use a step up ring 67mm - 77mm , will this cause vignetting?

A: No, stepping up 10mm's will not cause vignetting.

Q: 4. What is the outside diameter of this ring? Is it 100mm so that I can use a push on lens cap?

A: The outside diameter is around 97mm-98mm. A 100mm lens cap will be loose.

Q: 5. What is the thread on the 100mm side? 0.75 or 1.0?

A: The thread on both sides is 1.0 mm or coarse.

Q: 6. What is the pitch of the 86-95 step up ring? Does it match the Otus 85mm?

A: Sorry but unable to help. Don't know the Otus and don't know the pitch. All I can say is, that it's a quality ring.

Q: 7. Can it work with NiSi S6 150mm Filter Holder Adapter Ring for Standard Filter Threads 105, 95, and 82mm ?

A: This ring will allow for an adapter with a 105mm thread to fit a lens with a 95mm thread.

Q: 8. Will the 54mm end fit a lens with series VII (Series 7) threads? I believe they are 54.3mm (2 1/8 inches).

A: unfortunately this will not.

Q: 9. I need to step up from 48mm to 77mm. Can I use this ring in combination with a 58 to 77mm ring?

A: To mount 77mm filters on a lens with 48mm threads, you can use the Heliopan 48-58mm Step-Up Ring (#184) with any 58-77mm Step-Up Ring. Sensei PRO 58-77mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring, BH #SESURPA5877, is a good option.

Q: 10. Looking to use this on my sigma 18-35 f1.8. With a filter on it, will there be vignetting?

A: You could use the Heliopan 72-77mm Step-Up Ring (#141) on the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens. You will not get vignetting but you will not be able to use the lens hood.

Previously purchased a step up ring by Bogen for $6.95. Okay quality but threading the filter onto the step up ring was not as smooth as I'd have hoped. My filter is a Heliopan Circular Polarizer. In my initial research for step up rings, I didn't find where Heliopan sold step up rings so I purchased the inexpensive Bogen. This Heliopan ring is of high craftsmanship and threads onto my filter and camera (Canon 7D) like butter. Highly recommend.

Though this is a very expensive product and one can get step-up rings much cheaper, they are perfectly finished and confidence inspiring. But then my filters are very expensive as are the lens that they thread onto. These are sturdy, beautifully finished and will not stick or lock. Precision threading that makes removing and adding filters smooth and removes any consequent frustration in time-bound situations. Over the years, I have had all kinds of step up/down rings, but having moved to better filters (thin profiles), I am coughing up the extra to protect them too. These are the best rings I have come across.

I shoot with a variety of lenses old and new - got a bunch of step up rings to get as much use out of a 82mm Variable ND filter as possible. This one works as advertised, is low profile, and seems to be holding up fine after bouncing around in a pocket when necessary.

Very robust construction made of brass instead of aluminum. You maybe thinking it doesn't matter but I have had issuses with aluminum filters sticking together. Not so with this ring so far. Sure it's relativity heavy and expensive but it works.

This is a solid, no nonsense German product. You get what you pay for and it works well with my 67mm lens so I can attach my 77mm Lee NG holder.

Purchased this ring to use a 77mm filter with my 52mm lens. Ring fits tight on the lens, and the filter fits tight on the ring. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another ring when needed.

It's very easy for filters and adapters to bind, especially 77mm. I read many reviews regarding the difference between the generic and Heliopa step-up rings and decided I simply would have to find out for myself. I purchased both a generic step-up ring and the expensive Heliopan ring. Yes there is a difference. The Heliopan is higher quality. The Heliopan is brass and the generic is aluminum. The threads on the Heliopan are significantly better than the generic; much less drag resistance and easier mounting and removing. So is it worth the difference in price? The difference in price was minimal for a step up ring that is absolutely superior than the generic one considering it is used on a $2500 camera with a $1200 lens with a $175.00 filter.
