This 3-stop, 127mm Formatt HD ND Glass Filter, made with Schott-Desag B270 crown optical glass, has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film.

Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters.

Formatt's Neutral Density Filters are a response to the many DPs and cinematographers who find that it is important to shoot as wide open as possible to minimize depth of field - especially with HD

In response to the professional demand for an optically correct and pristine neutral density filter for HD, Formatt designed its HD Neutral Density Filters, which are the ultimate solution to enhance color contrast and are ideal for normal light reduction

Available in all the popular round screw-in sizes and all the standard square sizes

All Formatt filters are finished with a unique edge frame offering maximum protection against chipping, surface scratches and enables easy handling and cleaning

With the filter description on top of the frame it also makes identification of the filter much easier especially when filters are stored in cases on location

Formatt HD Neutral Density filters have the same densities and light stops as the Kodak Wratten Standards

Q: 1. I would like to record a long dance recital. How do you think this camera would hold up? Does it allow direct plug into a power outlet for long periods of recording? Does it automatically break up recordings into 10 or 20 minute video "chunks"? Thanks

A: This camcorder will work very well for Long Dance Recitals. You will be able to record video for as long as the memory card allows. Most camcorders like this may break up the video, but if you follow the proper protocols for work flow in to your editing program, the clips will appear as they were recorded. An AC power supply is included.

Q: 2. Does Canon XA20 have zoom speed control feature? Is it possible to zoom slowly or very slowly without using the front Focus/Zoom control ring manually?Potential Buyer Of XA20

A: Speed is adjustable. Slow, normal and fast. I have found the zoom on the camera to be really easy to use. When using a tripod I use a remote zoom as well. That is my favorite, when possible, because of the size of the paddles.

Q: 3. Can you recommend a mic I can use for general outdoor (nature) video shoots. Most of my video recording is done outdoors using natural sound? So far the built in mic has been adequate, but wondering if there's a better alternative. Thanks.

A: Hi Carl,I highly recommend the Audio-Technica AT-8022 for the reasons you mentioned. That is the mic that B&H recommended to me. Night and day difference from the built-in mic. I am a professional musician and use that exact camera-mic setup to record my live performances. People have told me that it feels like you are actually there. It is a stereo mic with a nice X-Y pattern to capture enough ambient noise. It has a more focused sound field the closer it is placed to the subject and gets wider as distance increases. All the necessary accessories are included for camera mounting. Well worth the money. If you would like to hear what the mic sounds like, please visit my YouTube channel: Kevin Baricar. Hope this helps your decision.-Kevin

Q: 4. Live stream videos

A: Yes, I live stream with this camera the Canon XF 100 using a black magic video recorder, a green screen and wirecast pro 7.8. Great camera, great screens, havent had any problems yet. Love it.

Q: 5. I know this only outputs a 1080 signal but will it accept multiple 4K SDI inputs and down convert?

A: It will not. The maximum input it supports is 1080p.

Q: 6. I know it's not for this, but has anyone tried putting a quad 4k signal into this?

A: If you feed it a 4K UHD quad-link SDI signal (square division), it will display the 4 images as 1. However, since it's not designed for that there may be tearing in the video.

Q: 7. Are there issues importing MXF files into Adobe Premiere? Does anybody have experience with this?

A: There should not be any issues importing files from the XF100 in to the latest version of Adobe Premiere.

Q: 8. I have a converter for my HV40 will it fit the XF100?

A: I am sorry but a lens converter for the Canon HV40 cannot fit the XF100 for it's mounting thread diameter is too small. We have several converters for the XF100: see them on it's B&H page under AccessoriesLens Attachments and Converters. Here is one example of a wide converter. Helder MW-4558 58mm HD 0.45x Wide Angle Conversion Lens B&H # HEMW4558 It is a wide converter that is highly rated, affordable and in stock.

Q: 9. NTSC ?

A: Yes, it's NTSC. PAL is Europe.

Q: 10. Can I use a wireless remote control to turn this camera on/off if it’s mounted high and unreachable?

A: No, the Canon XF100 Digital Camcorder has no wireless remote for camera controls from afar.
