Q: 1. Can I use this for a solar eclipse? Please respond soon because I need it for the 8/21/17 eclipse!!

A: I tested this filter on a Canon 70D with a 300mm focal length lens looking at the Sun. For taking a photo of the partial eclipse, you should use a setting of f11 or higher with a shutter speed of a thousandth of a second or shorter and a low ISO of 100 or less to get an unsaturated sharp image.

Q: 2. Does this filter have a "normal" stop where it acts like a UV filter and doesn't darken the image or will automatically darken when put on?

A: This filter is always darkening the image by 10 stops. This is not a variable filter, it is a fixed 10 stop ND filter.

Q: 3. Hello, could you please confirm whether this filter will definitely 100% work with the olympus OM-D E-M10 mark ii kit lens? Thanks in advance.

A: For the kit lens I see on sale with the OM-D E-M10 MkII, yes. I use this filter on an older generation Olympus 14-42mm zoom. Check the label on the front of your lens: it should say ?37. This means the lens accepts 37mm filters such as this one.

Q: 4. Any noticeable color cast on images with this filter?

A: There is a slight color cast but not too noticeable, this filter is considerably better than most.

Q: 5. The picture they show with this ND filter looks terrible with the filter, is that a mistake or does this filter really do that to your shot?

A: i do not know what you refer to when you say the picture they show with this ND filter looks terrible with the filter, as i did not see any reference picture. all any ND filter does is cut down the light entering the camera lens, just like sunglasses do for our eyes. except this filter knocks down the light by a factor of 10 camera stops. this means that to get the proper exposure for any given aperture, the shutter has to be open for a much longer time to compensate for the filter. in fact, the shutter needs to be open approximately 1,000 times as long. for instance, if without the filter, a correct exposure is metered to be f/8 (or any aperture) at 1/250th a second, then, using the same aperture of f/8, the exposure would need to 4 seconds long. as the filter is neutral, there is no adverse effect on the color of the photograph. the only things that might effect picture quality are any movements that take place during the exposure, or any camera movements. when using this filter, there are few if any times that a tripod shouldn't be used. this filter is usually selected for the purpose of showing the effect of movement during the exposure like clouds or rushing water. it is a specialized and filter and not appropriate for general photography.

Q: 6. Hi, Did you notice color casting or shifting using this filter on long exposures (e.g. 20-30 )?I wonder if there's any difference in THAT regard with the MRC version?(B+W - 77mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter - which is much more expensive..)Thank you!!

A: Hey Pablo, sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away. Yes, I found I need to cool it by about 700 degrees..Peter

Q: 7. B+W, Brand name or Meant for Black and White photos?

A: Brand name

Q: 8. Is the lens barrel (including the extension), made of metal or composite (plastic)?

A: The lens barrel is a combination of poly carbonate and metal.

Q: 9. Would this be adequate for the eclipse?

A: I wouldn't try it. The UV and other wavelengths that a re harmfull aren't blocked by it. But it's your sensor.

Q: 10. Is it Ok for Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch?

A: Yes, this is a universal privacy screen.

I bought this lens based on the good reviews to replace my Pentax 18-135 on my Pentax K-5. It was immediately obvious that this lens was sharper than my 18-135. The focus was right on for everything I did--fast and accurate. The lens is only slightly larger than the 18-135 when not extended, but it is longer when extended (not discrete-it looks big extended). It is not a fast lens, but a f/2.8 would be heavier and more expensive. I tried using it for astrophotography, but without the distance indication on the focusing ring, it is hard to confirm focus. This lens now lives on my K-5.

I bought this lens as an everyday carry. For that, it's great. I appreciate the extra 2mm on the wide endespecially for landscape or architecture, and the extra zoom compared to the kit lens. The image quality is phenomenal compared to what I'm used to (which isn't much). Unfortunately, there seem to be some QC problems with the lens. The first one I got didn't autofocus correctly, so I sent it back, but not before taking 1300 photos in manual focus of a family outing in the snow. The photos came back great (at least the ones that I managed to focus correctly), and it was good not to have to worry about getting snow on everything. The return went well with B&H, they processed it and sent out the new one the same day. My second lens seems to work flawlessly. The AF is smooth, quick, and quiet.

I have had to get BlackMagic to send me replacement power supplies for my Pocket 6K cinema. These are much more sturdy and durable.

Just got it a few days ago and already I can tell it's better than the Pentax 18-135mm lens ! Give a great wide angle if that is what your looking for , it is good . I sold my 18-135 and got this 16-85mm cause I'm into wide angle , more than far out .This lens is very nice !

I love this optic. Perfect zoom range and a very good build quality. It is attached to my K3 II most of the time.
