Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. where are the barn doors for the Fresnel 150?

A: Barn doors are an accessory, and need to be purchased separately. You may also want to purchase some scrims and a spare bulb.

Q: 2. Does the light come with a bulb or do I have to buy that separately?

A: Lamps are not included.

Q: 3. Can i swap an led bulb with this unit?

A: Yes, the lamp is replaceable for the ARRI 300W Plus Tungsten Fresnel (120-240 VAC). Please see the link provided. https://bhpho.to/3V3TkEe

Q: 4. What is the color temperature of the lamp?

A: 3200 K

Q: 5. Hello there!I am new in this and I have some questions. I am planning to buy some of this lights. I already have the regular ones with bulbs and softboxes.Does this aril ight it get hot like a house light bulb or hotter? Can I put a softbox on it or it will burn it?what about If I put it aiming to close to the wall or paper backdrops? would it burn them out? Thanks!!!

A: Tungsten halogen fixtures like this one would produce a lot of heat and require special softboxes to withstand the heat. It is not advisable to place this light close to a wall or paper backgrounds at risk of fire. A suitable softbox you can use is the Chimera XS Video Pro Plus 1 Softbox (16 x 22 ) B&H # CHVPP1BXS which attaches to this Arri fresnel with the Chimera Speed Ring, Aluminum for Video Pro Bank, B&H # CHSRAC5VP.

Q: 6. Description says it is dimmable with an external dimmer. What is a suitable dimmer for these lights?

A: For a non professional dimmer you can use # imd1000 or any heavy duty dimmer with an Edison outlet

Q: 7. Is there a burn-in time for this? It smells horrible. Also, when I open it up to full flood, the light shuts off. Is it shorting?

A: this unit like most with a quartz lamp produces a great deal of heat. i would expect some burn-in time. this is a problem made worse in dirty or dusty environments. the fact that you are losing output at full flood raises other questions. i don't think you have a shorting problem (that would overload the circuit feeding the instrument and cause the protective breaker to trip. then there would be no power to illuminate the lamp when you returned to spot or mid-focus positions. it is likely that there is a loose connection in the feed wires which is stretched to the point where contact is broken and is regained when the position of the lamp carriage is moved again. if this is the case there may be a problem with insulation or some other material in the lamphouse touching or getting too near to the lamp (bulb) causing the burning smell.. pop the lamphouse and do some careful inspection of the socket, feed wires and focusing mechanism. be sure unit is unplugged when you do this. i don't want to responsible for your getting a shock if there is an electrical issue.this is not a normal situation and if you can't find a simple explanation quickly it is time to box the unit up and return it for a functional one. in my experience arriflex and b&h are both exceptional service providers and genuinely concerned about quality and customer satisfaction.

Q: 8. what is the carrying case made of?

A: I don't know, but it's pretty tough

Q: 9. can you use multiple watt bulbs?

A: It is 120-240VAC; however, it will work with 220-240 AC voltage but you need the appropriate bulb and adapter. I have used multiple watt bulbs in mine and have never had an issue. You just need the adapter. I hope this is helpful! Good luck!!

Q: 10. How do they ship this kit? Does it all come as one or each piece individually?

A: This came all in one big heavy box (the one on the image). The box has wheels which definitely helps moving it around.

I always wanted one of these... 20 yrs ago in film school I did a lot of stop motion work and always wanted a smaller light than little tweenies... Now, I wanted it as a hair light...basically power didn't matter too much, it was just that the lighter and smaller the light, the quicker it is to give dark haired people that little kick (especially if the background is dark)---this is for anything, I work on features, music videos, and docs...) Well, sensors are so much more powerful than the film stocks from back in the day, wow! This is so much more powerful now. In a pinch, I could use it as a key (with lots of diffusion) for an interview. It cools really well, and the flood/spot control is really smooth (as to be expected from Arri), and this is just one of the little, but hugely important differences between this light and cheapie redheads.

An excellent addition to any lighting kit. Great output and a cheap alternative to Dedo, if you dont have the budget.

Perfect hair light. At@ we are loving this light. Great to add a splsh of light on your background. Its always used on our corporate shoots I think B&H is a solid company that knows what they are selling.

Been using these 150s for years as accent lights, hair lights, etc.

In my opinion, Id rather use good ol hot lights versus new LED options.

Reviewers have touched upon some key points: Bulb is hard to change, doesnt ship with barn doors....

I still give this light 5 stars for its dependability and light quality.

I use the light for photography and live footage, have had no complaints whith these, actually this is the 4th I'm buying, great power and great performance overall, the only thing is that a replacement Fresnel lens is hard to find locally, however they are made to last anyways.

I needed a small, easy utility light. Arri gear, in general, is quality, and this light is no exception. It's perfect for a back kicker, an overhead pool to draw attention to a certain part of the frame, or to use as a source for a practical lamp. The 150s are the scalpels of the industry. They can't dim on their own, but with the Impact D1000 dimmer it's unbeatable. I brought this on an independent shoot and it saved many shots. Also, skin loves tungsten light.

How can you go wrong with an ARRI? Great for highlights or for putting just the right amount of light on the your backdrop.

I use these as accents light to punch up small areas. I like the fact they offer a good puch while keeping the power requirements to a level that allows shooting in most residential buildings. They are somewhat heavy, but that's to be expected in a light made of top quality materials. Lamp changes are easy as the top slides open(back) to offer access to the socket.

Great addition for a lightweight travel interview lighting kit. I use this primarily as a hair light or to add interest to a background. You can't beat the light quality from a fresnel lens. You always need at LEAST one hard light in your interview kit. 150w isn't that bright but perfect for talking heads interviews. The ability to spot and flood the light as well as shape it with barn-doors is essential to having a hard light. If you can't afford the Dedolight 150 (which is brighter than this light but roughly the same size) this is the light for you.
