$597.00 $907.44

This XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 8.8 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an integrated RC2 quick release cam lock and a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. RC2 compatible quick release plates such as the 200PL-14 can be removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be quickly reattached. The cam lock also features a safety catch to prevent the 200PL-14, or another compatible quick release plate from accidentally disconnecting.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate before securing it to the pan-and-tilt head. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 90° forwards or 20° backwards, as well as 90° sideways for portrait orientation. Each of these three movements function independently of each other and have individual, spring-clamp controls. Squeezing each clamp's two handles allows the corresponding movement to be rapidly adjusted, and once the handles are released, the adjustment is locked into place. One handle on each clamp is also an integrated twist knob that allows incremental, geared adjustments, which help to ensure that any device mounted to this XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head is precisely positioned relative to the subject.

To further promote fast and repeatable device positioning, this XPRO 3-Way, Geared Pan-and-Tilt Head also includes dedicated angle scales for each movement that are designed for easy visibility.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could this tripod head work with a 190XPROL?

A: Yes. The Manfrotto website says the 190XPROL is compatible with almost any standard photographic head. Certainly that assures that it will be compatible with the Manfrotto head. I have it on my Manfrotto 055 series tripod. Both heads look exactly the same - 3/8 inch male thread with 3 retaining screws.

Q: 2. i just want to ask if this manffrotto head works on other tripods like the libec lx7 or on a slider ??

A: You can use the MHXPRO-3W 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head on other brand tripod legs, yes. The legs would simply need to have a 3/8-16 thread for mounting heads.

Q: 3. I've seen some reviews on this head from some unhappy customers. How is the play and gears on this head? I typically shoot with a pan/tilt or ball head but lately I've been shooting much more product and design/architectural assignments. I like the reviews on the 410 Jr but I want to stick with the RC2/PL220 releases.

A: my uses for this head are for spotting scopes and binoculars in the hunting field. i like the tight, smooth gearing for slow, precise panning of the view and the quick change levers for broader adjustments. excellent, lightweight geared head for backpacking. i plan to use the head on a heavier tripod for winter photography.

Q: 4. Will this work with the Magnus Rex vt4000 tripod which has a 3/8''-16 base but uses a 65mm bowl?

A: I'm sorry but it is not compatible.

Q: 5. From what alloy is the 405 constructed, and how hard is it? Should the gears wear well over the long haul?

A: I can't answer the question directly, but I will say that I loaded it with a heavy camera and large lens and it performed well.

Q: 6. Will this work with Manfrotto Model MK394-H Trypod?

A: I believe that MK394-H tripod has a built in head, so it can't be changed. I'd make sure that you can change the head before buying anything.

Q: 7. Can I use an ARCA compliant L-bracket with this head?

A: This is the only L bracket that will work this head: https://bhpho.to/2tcddff

Q: 8. Has anyone noticed when the head is flipped vertically, does the quick release latch touch one of the handles? I tried one at a local store, but because the latch touched a handle, the head wouldn't quite go all the way vertical.

A: Yes, the quick release latch does touch the handle, but the handle is designed to be pulled out. The latch does not hit the handle if it is pulled out, as it should be when not folded up. The picture above shows the tilt head with both handles pulled out. You can see that the quick release latch will hit only if the handle is pushed in.

Q: 9. Just want to know anyone’s experience using this with a full frame DSLR and lens with on-camera flash. All in all, my setup is about 5 pounds which is well under the stated load capacity, but wanted to hear if anyone has any negative experiences with a setup like this. Thanks!

A: Great 3 way head and there should not be any issues given your load capacity.

Q: 10. Is this good for birds in flight?

A: I don't know why people say you shouldn't use this for birds in flight. I use my 14 year old Manfrotto 3 way for that very purpose. Works great with my 200-500. A lot less expensive than a gimbal head.

The XPRO Geared Head is ROCK SOLID. So quick framing subject squeezing the levers, then fine tuning composition with the gear driven micro adjustment. Doesn't budge even with my heavy 600mm Telephoto lens.

I have tried it out briefly and it seems to do exactly what I want.  It is easier to position than past heads which tend to sag a big after lockdown.  Being able to move the geared settings is great---zero right in on what you want.  Not something Id probably use all the time, but needed the light weight for travel.

For MANY years I strictly used ball heads on my tripods. However, I recently started doing Real Estate photography, and I knew I needed a pan and tilt head. I had heard geared heads were the best, but I was hesitant to spend that amount of money. I am here to say though that it is worth every cent. This head is absolutely fantastic, and I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on it all these years. Combined with my in camera level, the built in bubble levels, and the precision movements that only a gear head can provide, this is a top notch product that is good for any occasion. Highly Recommend!!

Tried this to replace basic head for telephoto, spotting scope and small astronomy scope use. I could not be happier! The quick move levers are great! The knob fine adjustment gears are a slight bit loose but fully acceptable for my applications. Also want to give 5 stars to BH customer service relative to their very quick and very good guidance on weight loads for the head. Solid product, exceptional service - what's not to like?!

I had an old 3265 ball-head that was loosing its grip when pointed down. I bought the XPRO 3-way and could not be happier. It took some time to get used to the new 200PL-14 Quick Release mechanism, but learning was not a steep curve and I can still use the same plate as my old 3265. The quick release levers on each axis allow smooth panning in any direction. Panning is even easier with the extensions on each nob. Altogether great design!

The simple quick-adjustment feature works great to make large movements fast; then the geared knobs are very tight, and make micro adjustments easily. Rock solid head, with no looseness, wobble or creep. Once you set it in a position, it's there until you move it. Other pan and tilt heads I've used in the past can start to slide out of place when the weight of a large lens pulls on it, unless you put a lot of force into tightening them. Not so with this head. Very light and fairly rugged for a non-metal composite head.

I shoot architecture for real estate and commercial purposes with a Canon 5D Mark IV and a specialty Canon 11-24mm rectilinear lens. Because it is so darned wide it has to be PERFECTLY aligned horizontally, vertically, and tilt-wise on all three axis or all the lines in the room get squabbly (not a word). This is the perfect head because it allows me to fine-tune the positioning controls on all three axis with minute precision until the level on the camera tells me I've done a good job. It's strong enough to support the camera and the heavy lens and it was well worth the money for its capabilities. I cannot recommend it enough if you have to use a weird lens like mine. Enjoy!

I bought this for real estate photography, it is very VERY easy to get the camera perfectly level with the geared controls. I love this head.

I had a D750 and Sigma 15-30 on it.

I would recommend this

I mounted this on my Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 Tripod in place of another brand Geared Head. This Head is much smoother & easier to operate. I'm purchasing another one for my other Tripod. I highly recommend this over all other brands of Geared Heads.
