I have not used the Sony or Panasonic cameras. I like my JVC very much. It is very sharp and after tweaking the gamma I love the pictures it produces. I use a Sony HXR NX5U at work. The picture I get shooting in 1080i with the JVC I feel is better than the Sony( the Sony seems soft). This little camera is packed with features I would recommend the JVC based on the XLR inputs and lens rings alone.
