Designed for close-up shooting, the Lumix G Macro 30mm f/2.8 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. from Panasonic is a 60mm-equivalent prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless digital cameras. Its macro capabilities enable a minimum focusing distance of 4.1" along with a 1:1 magnification ratio for life-size imaging of nearby subjects. One aspherical element helps to control spherical aberrations and distortions and a multi-layer coating reduces ghosting and lens flare for increased contrast and color fidelity.

In addition to the optical performance, the lens also features a MEGA O.I.S. system, which compensates for the effects of camera shake for sharper hand-held shooting. A stepping AF motor and internal focusing design offer fast, smooth, and near-silent focusing performance and the rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. when used on an Olympus OM D Em1 or 5 mk 2 ... does this lens work with the focus bracketing feature where the body can move the lens to focus points automatically?

A: Pavel - Yes this lens works with focus bracketing and focus stacking on the OM-D EM-1 ver 4.0. Just pick forward focal point, number of images, step increment, and press the shutter button or tap the LCD screen.

Q: 2. Does it work on M9?

A: You are not going to be happy with this lens on an M9, even if you could find an adapter. The M9 has a full frame sensor, and this lens is designed to work on a Micro Fourth Thirds camera. If you could figure out how to mount it the lens would either not have coverage of the full sensor, or image quality could be sub-par.

Q: 3. Country of origin? Is this lens made in Japan?

A: The Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S. Lens is made in Japan.

Q: 4. The G9 has a built in feature to do focus stacking. Will that feature work with this lens?

Q: 6. I am from canada, will this still be covered by warranty?

A: Like the majority of the items B&H sells, this comes with a USA only Limited 1-Year Warranty. You can, once you place this into a B&H Shopping Cart, select a Square Trade protection plan that is valid world wide.

Q: 7. Does it work on a Leica M6?

A: No; micro 4/3 mount.

Q: 8. Does this lease work on Leica CL which is APSC?

A: Unfortunately, this lens would not fit on Leica CL which uses the Leica L mount. This lens is for the Micro 4/3 mount cameras like a Panasonic GH5.

Q: 10. How loud is the auto focus motor when shooting video on Panasonic Gx8?

A: I would say next to silent... Can't say for certain, but from my experience I don't recall ever hearing it in my footage. I shoot on a GH4

Forces you to think differently and be more on your feet. The clarity is in my opinion the best you will get in this price range.

The images with this lens are very sharp. I enjoy macro photography, typically flowers. I typically use manual focus and this lens has a feature where the amount the focus changes depends on the speed you turn the focus ring. I've read reviews of people who don't like that feature, but I do like it. You can get close to the correct focus very fast and then turn the ring slowly for final focus. Combined with focus peaking it works great. I'm using this with an Olympus EM-1 mk ii and focus bracketing. I process the stack of images on the computer using other software. The only thing I don't like about this lens and I can't seem to change with any settings is that the lens diaphragm closes and opens for every photo during a stack. I often shoot a stack of 30 images and the lens diaphragm will close to take the photo, then open again as the lens is micro focused for the next image. You hear a slight chattering sound as the diaphragm closes and opens very fast for each image. With my Olympus lens the lens diaphragm closes down and stays closed while the whole stack of images is captured. It takes extra time to open and close the diaphragm and I'm concerned that this puts unnecessary wear and tear on the mechanism. So far it hasn't been a problem. Some people complain that you have to get too close to the lens at 1:1. But 1:1 on a Micro Four-thirds camera represents a subject width of only 17 mm. I usually don't shoot that small in the field. I would say 30 mm is a more typical size for me in the field. So far after using it for over a month with hundreds of macro photos I haven't noticed any problems with limited lens to subject distance.

Great bokeh, incredible minimum focus distance but doesn't need to be. The mft LUMIX lens line has a bunch of affordable fast prime lenses but they don't have stabilization, this is more expensive than the kit zooms and it's not weather sealed but im in love with shooting with this lens

So far I like the lens a lot. I am an amateur photographer, and the main reason I bought this lens was for macro photos. I am still learning, but I am impressed by 1:1 magnification. The only downside is that for a real macro shot you have to get really close to the object because it is only 30mm. On the other hand, for the price and availability for Lumix, it is probably the best option.

I do a lot of close-up shootings, so I decided to get this lens when it was on a discounted price. I was attracted that the lens features a MEGA O.I.S. system, which compensates for the effects of camera shake for sharper hand-held shooting. It's a very useful tool to have if you do hate carrying a tripod all the time.

I am very pleased with it and you should try this lens if you love doing close up photography with your macro four thirds camera.

Have only had about 1 week but happy with pictures rendered with this lens. The OIS on this as far as I can tell is pretty good as I can hand hold down to .5 of a sec. I will refer back to this lens once I get more camera time with this lens under my belt.

Ive used this lens a lot over the past 2 months. In fact, its been my main lens on my Panasonic G7 camera.

This is a very nice lens, and lets you get in nice and close to whatever you are photographing. Ive enjoyed it quite a bit, and have to admit Im still learning good macro technique to use with this lens.

However, as far as MACRO uses are concerned, I think I would get a longer focal length if I were to do this all over again. I knew the 30mm focal length would require a close lens-to-subject distance...but dang, you pretty much have to be Right on Top of the subject...with the lens nearly touching your subject!

So, for the ability to get in as close as you want to shoot...this is a very nice normal/close focus lens. (Food Photography, Flowers, etc.) However, if you want a lens for primarily Macro use, I would suggest something with a longer focal length.

I wanted a macro lens but I didn't want something so tight on the subject that I couldn't also get a photo of the habitat without changing a lens or camera- and this has been great. Super sharp, the only criticisms I have with it is that it didn't come with a lens hood and it hunts for focus on autofocus sometimes. When it hunts I just throw it into manual and stop being so darn lazy which it does an great job at and I probably should have done to begin with. I could see it being annoying though if you were doing video.

It is equivalent to a 60mm on a dslr- and after shooting at much wider angles for a long time, its been a nice length to focus on composition- though it sometimes feels tight. Great for flowers, people and even buildings and has become my go-to lens when headed for a hike.
