This is a Manfrotto Combi Boom Stand. Extend the second riser of this medium duty black aluminum light stand to its maximum, press a lever, and you have a stand with a two section boom arm. When used as a boom stand, its maximum load is 4.5 lbs (2 kg) -- strong enough for a small light fixture with a small softbox or umbrella. A sandbag counterweight is supplied (empty) and recommended whenever boom is extended.

A: The 39.5" length is with the stud removed.

Q: 8. Would this hold a Westcott Rapid Box 26 inch octa with speedlite?

A: Hi Suzanne,I've used the lightstand with the Joe McNally 24 softbox and a canon 600ex speedlight. That said, while the stand didn't have any issues holding it, one thing to note is to orientate the legs so that you have a one leg facing directly forward. This will assist in preventing it from toppling over as it can be a little front heavy. Alternatively (and this is what I would recommend) use a sandbag weight. There is a hook for it but I simply laid it over one of the leg stands as they can be placed flat with the floor.

A: Hi Elan,The stands fold surprisingly flat. At its widest point, which would be at the locking mechanisms, it may be only about 1.5 inches. They are really nice for traveling. If you are buying the 3-pack, they actually snap together very flushly. All three of them together is under 5 inches.

Q: 10. Do the spigots have flat edges or are they completely round?

A: The spigots are completely round.
