The Formatt 95mm HD/DV Soft Effect Clear 1 Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass Filter is designed with the HD (High Definition) shooter in mind. Today's HD lenses are ultrasharp and often generate an image that is not as flattering to a subject as one might desire. This incredible technological breakthrough gives HD shooters the touch of softness they want but with no resulting loss of contrast or detail.

Using a sophisticated series of tiny "lenslets", the filter allows a certain amount of light to pass through unaffected. The rest is bounced around inside creating spherical aberration, avoiding the risk of secondary focus at short focal lengths, as may happen with other so called "soft" filters. These lenslets eliminate the moire patterns often generated by the highly sensitive surfaces in today's HD lenses and digital sensors.

Formatt, a company with three generations of professional filter-making experience produces every filter to the highest technical standards. The finest materials, together with state of-the-art production technology have resulted in a standard of optical excellence unmatched anywhere else.

The filter uses a series of small Plano-convex lenses mounted within a specially developed matrix which in turn is sandwiched between highly polished sheets of Schott B270 Super White optical lens glass.

Each filter is manufactured from Schott-Desag B270 Crown Optical Glass

It has absolute consistency in color and density to Kodak Wratten standards.

Its precision grinding and polishing result in unbeatable optical flatness that allows use on even ultra-long focal length lenses.

Filter edges are protected with a unique frame for maximum protection and easy handling.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will you still get sound without the mic?

A: There is an internal mic on it that works very well.

Q: 2. I have a canon xf100 that has started saving a filming session on multiple files instead of just one. How can I correct it?

A: The MXF Files Format that the XF100 uses will require you maintain proper file structure when importing the footage in to a Non-Linear Editing System. The best practice is to copy and paste the entire contents of the memory card to your computer and from there import the footage in to your editing system. The files may be broken up on the card, but once you import them in the system they should be joined up. If you require additional assistance feel free to email us at ask@bandh.com.

Q: 3. Can I use SD Cards with the XF 100?

A: We're afraid not. The XF100 records to Compact Flash cards only. The SD card slot is for picture profiles, not recording.

Q: 4. Is it possible to quickly switch between clip playback and HDMI Passthrough? I have an ATEM Mino Pro which has 4 inputs, I have a 4 camera shoot, I'd like to be able to run one camera into the HDMI input of the hyperdeck, and then run the hyperdeck into the ATEM. I'd then like to just output the HDMI signal, but then when I need to play a clip either trigger it from the device or ATEM software control and have it switch. Then switch the HDMI output back to the input feed.

A: When in record mode the camera signal will be shown. And simply pressing Play on the Hyperdeck Shuttle will start playing clips.

Q: 5. For how long does it battery keeps with charges during shooting ?

A: With the included BP-925 battery you should expect to get around 100 minutes of recording time with typical use. It is always a good idea to purchase an additional battery when buying a new camcorder. The BP-955 Battery (B&H #CABP955) will give you around 3.5 hours of recording time while the BP-975 (B&H #CABP975) will give you around 5 hours.

Q: 6. Can you use the teleprompter feature and record simultaneously?

A: No, the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can only be operated in one mode at a time.

Q: 7. How long is the cable that comes with it? Is it standard (old-fashioned) USB?

A: The HamiltonBuhl SuperFlix HD Webcam (OEM) has a 4' USB-A 2.0 cable.

Q: 8. 1- Will this video camera works well in low light situations?2- Can it be connected to AC outlet?3- How long is the battery life per recording?

A: I have shot some night videos with it. Check these: http://goo.gl/cxMp7k, http://goo.gl/pSIUoj and http://goo.gl/PnkgBQ. Sometimes BHP won't allow URLs. If that's the case then go to flickr and search for armadillo crosses the road (shot through my windshield in the headlights), marsh rabbit munches grass (shot out the open driver's side window) and nice little garter snake (shot up close in the headlights). The optional CA-570 power adapter will allow you to use external power. I always carry a spare battery. Much depends on how the camera is set up and how you use it as to how long the battery will last. If you use the view screen a lot that will shorten the battery life. If you have it set up for active stabilization I suspect that will shorten battery life. I'm afraid I can't say how long the battery will last however I've used it off and on all day long in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum without replacing the battery. It's a great camera. I love it to bits. It has a huge number of features and controls and it takes a while to learn them all.

Q: 9. Can it be used as a playback/highlights for sports for example?

A: Yes, because the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can record the incoming HDMI feed and then play those recordings back, it can be used as a playback device for sports highlights.

Q: 10. What is the base sensitivity(ISO) of the sensor at 0dB?

A: I am sorry but camcorders like the Canon XF100 do not have an ISO setting, which is why information as to its base ISO is not published.
