Capture broadcast-quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the satin nickel Rode NTG3 moisture-resistant shotgun microphone. Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, upgraded immunity to radio-frequency interference, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in postproduction.

The NTG3's high sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG3 delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing attenuation of low bass frequencies. Its switch- and dial-free design lets you set up quickly and focus on the sound instead of fiddling with various mic settings. The solid brass housing is both durable and lightweight, and its anti-glare finish prevents reflections in the shot.

When your work takes you outdoors, you're bound to encounter humidity and condensation, which can cause many mics to fail. The NTG3's RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, allowing you to reliably capture high-quality audio in normal and adverse environmental conditions. It also includes a weatherproof aluminum storage cylinder for maximum protection during travel.

The NTG3 was engineered for broadcast-quality sound, enhanced immunity to RF (radio frequency) interference, and low handling noise. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

The combination of the NTG3's 10" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rejection behind the mic. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, the NTG3 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The NTG3 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG3 in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic.

The NTG3 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work on the 90D?

A: Yes, The Rode Video Mic will work with the Canon 90D

Q: 2. What distance from your subject will give you the best sound quality?

A: The optimal distance for recording will vary depending on the environment and whether or not there is a significant amount of background noise or when outdoors, wind can make a big difference. When recording outdoors, you may need to be closer to the subject compared to recording indoors. You can use headphones to monitor the audio while recording to make sure that the sound is clear.

Q: 3. Does this come with a Dead cat or do I need to buy that. separate?

A: The furry windscreen in the picture comes with the microphone in the box.

Q: 4. Will this work with an iPhone, using lighting to 3.5mm headphone adapter?

A: Yes, I love the mic. I pair it with my iPhone, gopro, and my canon dslr. For the iPhone I bought a monopod, already had a ball-mount/thread adapter, from B&H purchased a Melamount iPhone case. So the phone gets installed in the case (has 2 1/4 20 thread mounts and 3 mounting spots for the Rode Mic and video light). The case has 2 folding handles; think I paid $35 & shipping. The mic definitely increases the decibels.

Q: 5. Will this microphone be compatible with the Sony a37?

A: As long as it has a mic input you are good to go .. Its a awesome mic

Q: 6. Does the Canon 5D Mark II have Plug-in Power? I am not sure where to find this answer.

A: Yes the 5D MKII does have plug in power.

Q: 7. Friends, Is this compatible with Canon 60D?

A: You can use it.

Q: 9. Will the plugin power functionality still work if I use a cord extension?

A: Yes! I use an extension over 12 ft long and it still works pretty good with my Canon 60D.

Q: 10. Will this work with my cannon 7d mark I?

A: Yes. The Rode VideoMicro will work with the plug-in power that the camera provides.
