Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi is this lens hood aluminium or plastic?

A: This is made of plastic.

Q: 2. Can I use ALC SCH 143 for FE 50mm F1.4 ZA?

A: Hello. The Sony ALC-SH144 is compatible with the FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS Lens. The ALC-SH143 is compatible with the FE 50mm F1.4 ZA.

Q: 3. I've read that this hood attaches via a thumb screw -- Can it be reversed on the lens for easy storage and if so, is it securely attached in the reverse position or is the screw still required when it's in the reversed position?

A: Yes. The hood can be reversed for the storage. The screw is used to secure the hood in the reverse position. Since the screw does not protrude beyond the outside diameter of the hood, it is not an issue. It can store comfortably in a snug fitting neoprene lens bag.

Q: 4. I have a 37mm filter on mine. How does the thumbscrew work? And why does it say 46mm screw in hood if the lens only accepts a 37mm filter????Thanks

A: The hood attaches around the filter. The thumb screw pushes a semicircle band inside the diameter of the hood applying even pressure to hold it on. Its basically a clamp.

Q: 5. I have tried screwing this lens hood on and it does not happen for me. Any secrets? I've had lots of lens hoods before this one (I've actually got two because I didn't realize the lens came with one) and both don't work.

A: Hi James, I recently had the same issue. First I also ordered a lens shade as the description did not indicate that one would be in the box. I returned the second one with no problem. As far as putting the lens shade on the lens. There is a removable ring on the front of the lens that needs to be taken off before you can actually add the lens hood. This is not the ideal situation as it is easy to loose. Not sure why Olympus set it up like this. Once you remove the ring you can easily add the lens hood. Hope this helps. By the way so far I am very happy with the results of using this lens. It is very easy to have this lens on the camera most of the time as it is extremely small. Good luck.

Q: 6. What I'm really looking for is a lens hood for the Olympus 17mm f2.8 lens, not the the f1.8. Does anyone know if there is one for that lens? Thanks

A: B&H has several 37mm screw-in lens hoods... the Heliopan 71037H would surely work, but I think I'd try the General Brand 37mm Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood first. 17mm field of view isn't all THAT wide, and the rubber hoods collapse if they cause vignetting, but will still provide some protection from off-axis light.

Q: 7. Is this lens hood usable for the Zuiko M4/3 14-42mm II zoom kit lens also?

A: Unfortunately, no, it is not. The Olympus LH-40B Lens Hood is only available for the for M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens; it is not compatible with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens. You would need to purchase the Olympus - LH-40 Lens Hood for use with the Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens (B&H# OLLH40).

Q: 8. Is this metal or plastic?

A: This hood is plastic.

Q: 9. I have the M.Zuiko 25mm f1.8 and the lens says it is a 46. The spec sheet also says it is a 46. Is this for and older 25? Mine was made 2013.

A: Olympus only has one (1) Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens (Black),B&H # OL2518MB. The above lens does have 46mm front filter threads. The Olympus LH-49B Hood for M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens (Black), B&H # OLLH49BB, is the original replacement lens hood designed for use with and included with the purchase of the aforementioned Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens.

Q: 10. How does the lens hood go onto the lens? I cannot get it to fit at all.

A: You need to remove the ring that is around the front of the lens. Just unscrew it and remove it and the hood will fit just fine.

I have used the Nikon 600mm f4 non-VR lens and the 200-400mm VR zoom and was not expecting the vast difference in performance of the 500mm with teleconverters. With the 600mm and 200-400mm I stayed with the 1.4 TC for the most part or would be using manual focus. With the 500mm f4 VR the difference is night and day with IQ with the TC20E III teleconverter that surpasses that of the 200-400mm VR lens without a teleconverter. I can use all three teleconverters and get excellent IQ with sharp images and good autofocus speeds. Even my D7100 can autofocus in low light with the 500mm lens and the TC20E III teleconver. Amazed at the IQ with this lens and all the converters when used with the D800e. I feel like I bought one lens and now have four lenses (500mm f4, 700mm f5.6, 850mm f6.3, 1000mm f8).

My daughter was given a Nikon camera with manual lens. The camera is no longer made and she was not using the camera due to the manual lens. I found this lens and it works great with the camera. Now my daughter is capturing pictures of my granddaughters everyday. Well worth the research and the money.

If you are like me and can not afford a 70-200vr, get this lens! At 1/4 the cost, IQ is wonderful for glass in this price range. Very versatile and light. Perfect combo with a 16-85vr. Have used this indoors with strobes and like the results, but it is not really meant for it. Great for kids baseball or soccer games. Indoors it can struggle where a 70-200 would shine. VR is nice for handheld shots also.

It cost a bit extra over a Sigma or other brands but you can tell the difference. Works like a champ on my D90, the VR really helps if you don't want to lug a tripod.

I just bought this lens for the 2nd time. The first one I purchased was involved in an untimely swim in a creek with my Nikon D700. Combined I have owned this lens for about 2 years. I primarily a nature photographer. I have used this lens for shooting everything from landscapes to close-ups on flowers. Like any zoom lens there are compromises with the aperture range but I have not found it to be a significant problem. The lens gives me consistent results, excellent details, and is versatile. I shoot mostly in manual mode but have not had a problem with occasions when I have used the auto-focus mode. If you have a large budget, you may opt for one of the more expensive Nikkor lenses but for the money, this lens is an excellent value.

I use this zoom for sports and portraits and its color rendition, sharpness and built quality exceeds my needs. Nice zoom range plus its VR wich alows you to hand hold even on indors. I used my D300s video mode with this lense and the VR works perfectly. Nice lenses for the money
