Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the deadcat windshield that comes with the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus fit properly?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 2. Is there a built-in mic? For our events I'd like a built-in mic while also getting audio through an XLR jack. Is that possible?

A: Yes, the JVC GY-HM170UA 4KCAM Compact Professional Camcorder has a built in Microphone. However we suggest working with a XLR shotgun microphone that is supported by the JVC GY-HM170. An external microphone will improve the audio quality. We have added the external microphone below: JVC QAN0067-003 Microphone for ProHD/4KCAM Camcorder BH #JVQAN3

Q: 3. does it have an sdi output? if yes can it output 3g sdi and also, does it have a micro usb port?

A: I bought 5 of the JVC GY-HM170 and I love them but also have needed SDI output. The 170's do not have an SDI output like the more expensive 200's but I found a cheaper work around, I bought the DECIMATOR MD-HX Miniature HDMI/SDI Cross Converter with Scaling & Frame Rate Conversion (B&H # DEDDHX MFR # DD-HX) for $295 and it works great. It is still cheaper than buying a HM200 and the Decimator does more. I believe the 170's do have a micro USB port, but I have not needed that. Hope this helps.

Q: 4. Can I use a rode videomic pro with this camera?

A: you can use rode. But if you have ivc mic .you don t need

Q: 5. Is the shoe metal as opposed to being plastic?

A: The shoe on the RODE VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is made of metal.

Q: 6. ax100 or this?

A: The Sony FDR-AX100, B&H # SOFDRAX100, has a larger 1 sensor that will give you a better performance in low light situations. However, the HM170UA is considered a professional level camcorder that adds XLR inputs for connecting higher quality microphones and has more manual controls on the camera body itself. It will really just be a matter of which features you prefer.

Q: 7. Does this have slow motion and fast motion recording function?

A: The JVC GY-HM170UA does not have a specific function for slow or fast motion, but when recording in 60 frames per second (fps), a video could be slowed down in editing, if using a 30 fps or 24 fps project. Any video could also be sped up in editing.

Q: 8. Does this embed audio on the HDMI output?

A: Yes.

Q: 9. a) can this be connected to a OnePlus Nord 2 phone? b) can it be connected to a laptop for podcast recording? c) does it have wifi or Bluetooth connectivity?

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro+ can be connected to a smartphone or computer when using adapters to enable compatibility. The mic does not have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity built-in. You can use a USB audio interface/adapter like the Audio-Technica Consumer ATR2x-USB 3.5mm to USB 2.0 Type-C Audio Adapter (B&H # AUATR2XUSB) to connect the microphone to your OnePlus Nord 2 smartphone as well as to connect to your computer. The mic's 3.5mm TRS cable will connect to the input on the interface and it also has a headphone jack to monitor the audio. The attached USB-C connector will plug into your phone and also into your computer. It also includes a USB Type-A adapter which you can use if your computer has a USB Type-A port.

Q: 10. What is the weight of this camera including battery?

A: According to JVC, the GY-HM170 with battery weighs approximately 2.4 lbs/1.11 kg.
