Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I remove the dividers and replace it with a foam insert if I decide I want to change it in the future?

A: Hi William!Yes you can. The dividers are totally removable in one piece.

Q: 2. zoom h5 play sideloaded audio files?

A: Yes it will. It can playback files from an SDHC memory card.

Q: 3. I have a external power bank with only 2A USB outputs. Would I need a 1A output for the Zoom H5 or will it be ok with the 2A?

A: Given your context, a 2 amp USB output versus a 1 amp is nothing to be too worried about. The area of concern is the voltage output. 5v is the max recommended by Zoom.

Q: 4. Will the rode videomic rycote work flawlessly with this. And is this an worthy upgrade to my H1?

A: It should. You'll be able to plug it in, and play with the levels and such off the recorder. This should be a sufficient upgrade for you. This recorder has multiple functions in it, and it's form factor feels amazing.

Q: 5. What's the battery life with continuous use of alkaline batteries?

A: When phantom-powering two typical mics, I get a bit over one hour from brand-name NiCD or NiMH (the H5 takes four AAs). That drain rate is mostly due to phantom power's heavy draw. Fresh alkalines last a bit longer, maybe a hair over 90 minutes. The rare times I've used my H5 without feeding phantom power to a mic pair, the batteries last much longer: e.g., after 2-2.5 hours, the initially fresh batteries show around 2/3 full.TIP 1: If you shoot near wall outlets, you can connect the H5 via its mini-USB port to any small cheap USB charger by any USB cable you have laying around, to run off wall current forever. I do this for shooting plays. This way, I can leave the LCD setting to stay lit (i.e., no power saving feature to turn off the LCD backlight after x minutes), so I can easily see recording levels at all times.TIP 2: If you shoot away from any wall outlets, you can still power the H5 externally via the same mnii-USB port by using any external power pack (like folks use for cell phones and tablets on long plane trips). Just make sure the connection is secure. A little gaf tape is good insurance.

Q: 6. Can a canon xf305 fit in this case?

A: Yes

Q: 7. So I am looking into buying my audio equipment and I am confused on what I should buy. Should I get the Zoom H5, Rode VideoMic Pro or should I buy an audio kit with boom pole? Or should I buy all three?

A: Dear Bryce. The zoom H5 is a recording device, or capture device. It's like a tape recorder, a nagra from the old days, except its digital. It has two little microphones on it which can come off. It has xlr inputs and 1/4 inch inputs for mics. On other words, you can attach anything to this device, like wireless receivers that take a signal from a Mic which you place on an actor, or, you could take a wireless signal from a Mic on the end of a boom pole. You can also run cable to the Mic and plug in directly to this device. So, for movie making this allows the sound person to be independent from the camera. All you need to do to make it easy to sync up later is use sticks at the beginning of a take, or the end. Do you follow me?.?.? Good.

Q: 8. I want to record video unto a DSLR from a RodeLink lav (3.5mm output through a Rode XLR converter), while recording ambient sound at the same time with its built-in microphones. Will the H5 do it, or do I need the H6? Which is the optimal recorder (low-noise, quality preamp) for this purpose?

A: You may plug the lav into the H5 and use that and the built in mics at the same time.

Q: 9. Will this fit 2 ad200 pro, Sony a7iii with sigma 24-70 attached, Sony 90mm, sigma 14-24mm, a v1 pro, batteries & accessories?

A: The Pelican 1510TP Carry-On Case with Trekpak Divider System (Black) will not fit the 2- Godox AD200Pro TTL Pocket Flash Kit. If you want to packed (2) Sony a7 III Mirrorless Camera, (1) Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E, (1) Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E, (1) Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens, and (1) Godox V1 Flash for Sony you can only fit one Godox AD200Pro TTL Pocket Flash Kit. The next case that will fit all your equipment is listed below. Please be aware that is not a carry-on case: https://bhpho.to/2LjuA6n

Q: 10. Can you record line level signal with the 2 XLR's?

A: Yes as long as you switch them to line level You will have line level, mic level and instrument level.

This case protects my lenses. The foam is durable and strong, and the case is tough enough that I feel perfectly comfortable about walking away from my lenses on set when I close the case. It's not as armor-like as an anvil case, but it is far lighter.

The case is solid. A regular pelican case may be more resistant to someone trying to break a lock off. The foam is easy enough once you get the trick. Just lay down what you want to fit on top of it and leave a little extra foam in place so it is snug. The bottom most layer is a tad thin so I prefer not to dig through the second layer from the bottom. Shorter lenses fit vertically. Pelican recommends silicon desiccants to control humidity in the case. This seems like a very good idea to me.
