A: I cannot speak to the frequency response of the built in mics. I have mainly used the unit with external mics and also have yet to do any music recording. The dialog that I have recorded is exceptionally clear and full frequency. (as full as the spoken word becomes)

Q: 2. Can I use only one XLR input and still get a stereo track? Or do you need to use both to get stereo?

A: Absolutely.Also make sure to choose the proper settings in the menu while setting up each time you record.The manual is very straight forward.

Q: 3. Can i use this device with my rode video mic pro plus on a boom pole setup ? The plan is to connect my rode video mic pro plus directly to the zoom h5 using the 3.5mm cable on a boom pole setup . Is it doable ?

A: Yes. That will be possible but by using the 3.5mm input on the zoom you will disable the onboard microphone. Q: 4. Does this make 2 left and right mono channel? Meaning, will it make exact same left and right channel like you can do in Zoom Hn4?

A: Yes.

Q: 5. Can Zoom H5 use a mono mic and convert to stereo automatically, if both channels will be used as same, left and right?

A: The signal will not be converted to stereo but to two channel mono.

Q: 6. I see that you can record a line-in via the XY module (e.g. for lav mics), but can you record the XY at the same time as that line in? So, could I have a lav mic plugged into the line-in _and_ also record the XY audio to get ambient/location sound separately from the lav?

A: You can definitely combine the XY module with a lav mic, however, the 3.5mm input on the XY module is for a line level signal. Since you want to connect a mic and not a line level signal, I would recommend using an XLR adapter with your lav mic and connecting the mic to one of the XLR-1/4" combo jacks. If your lav mic requires plug-in power, you can use Rode's VXLR Plus 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (B&H # ROVXLRP) which will convert phantom power to plug-in power. If the lav mic uses a battery for power or does not require any power, use the Rode VXLR 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter (B&H # ROVXLR) which just converts the connector to XLR. The XLR input offers the best options for recording the XY mics and lav mic simultaneously.

A: There is a foam rubber thingy included that works fine, but doesn't keep the wind out 100% in all cases. You can buy attachments that are better, but it has worked well for outdoor use for my podcast projects.

A: This recorder is a great choice for capturing either the live performance in the room with the built-in mics, or for connecting the inputs on the bottom to a mixer or speaker output for a direct recording.

A: I haven't used it as stereo input, but i have used it as a mono input for another lavalier and it works great

A: Turn off phantom power, but splitting the input is not recommended. Signal loss and noise might result.
