With a form and tone well suited for event video shoots, indie film production, TV and documentary shooting, court room depositions, and more, the Sony ECM-674 shotgun microphone offers strong, clean output signal for recording with camcorders, multitrack field recorders, and portable audio recorders.

The ECM-674 features a supercardioid polar pattern for excellent directivity and minimal noise at the off-axis sections of the capsule, resulting in intelligible voice pickup even in noisy environments. The microphone's wide, flat frequency response yields smooth, accurate signal reproduction with crisp detail and minimal coloration.

The ECM-674 can be powered with a single AA battery (available separately) or 40 to 52 VDC phantom power, making it compatible with a variety of consumer and professional devices. It includes microphone spacers and a mic holder to accommodate camera-mount and stand-mount configurations.

The ECM-674 has been designed as a highly directional and lightweight shotgun microphone, measuring 10.6" in length and weighing 6.5 ounces to ensure good balance even when mounted on compact camcorders.

With its flat and wide frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz, the ECM-674 provides sound reproduction that is smooth and natural.

The ECM-674 offers an excellent sensitivity of -36 dB and low self-noise level of less than 17 dB SPL, allowing the microphone to be used for clear voice capture even in noisy environments.

The onboard two-position (M, V) low-cut switch provides users with a simple method of reducing the effects of undesired ambient noise such as rumble.

The two-way powering capability allows the ECM-674 to be driven by 40 to 52 VDC phantom power or a single AA battery, making it suitable for both camcorder mounting and many other sound-gathering applications.

Considering that old batteries can leak and damage the equipment they power, the ECM-674 prevents this by continually detecting the output voltage of the battery and shutting off the power supplied to the electric circuit whenever the voltage drops beneath a certain threshold.

The ECM-674 is supplied with a windscreen that attenuates wind noise by approximately 5 dB, a short XLR cable, a microphone holder (for use on a mic stand), two stand adapters, a molded-type microphone spacer, and a sheet-type microphone spacer.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the shock mount on the mic work well I have heard it creates a lot of noise when moving your camera is that true?

A: The mic itself works well, but there is not really any shock absorption to it, so yes, there is the possibility that the mic will pick up handling noise.

Q: 2. How can i use this microphone with the a7s iii, and be able to have the 4channels (for timecode)

A: The microphone is mono, single channel only.

Q: 3. Compared to the Sony XLR-K3M Kit what is the difference in quality? I have an A7III, what should I observe before deciding to buy the ECM-B1M or XLR-K3M?

A: They are very different microphones. The KM3 allows you flexibility to use other XLR mics. The B1M is more compact. If you pair it with a A7RM4 its a fully digital path. If you are looking for flexibility then get the KM3. If you want a small mic with some noise isolation then get the B1M.

Q: 4. It's compatible for Sony a 7III?

A: Yes it is. This microphone will work with the Sony A7III for Analog Audio through the Multi-Interface Shoe on the camera.

Q: 5. Can you mount the G1 backwards and still use the MI function? I want to use MI recording me talking behind the camera

A: No, the ECM-G1 mic will not mount backwards on any camera's multi-interface shoe.

Q: 6. Will this microphone loose the Noise Cancelation and Microphone Directionality functions on analog mode? e.g. Sony a7III & Sony a6500.

A: No it will not. Everything should work fine regardless of the mode you are in

Q: 7. is this mic better than the ECM-B10?

A: Yes the Sony ECM-B1M is a better quality version of the Sony ECM-B10.

Q: 8. Will this work with a Sony AX-43A video camera directly on the shoe and not using the 3.5 mm cable ?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-G1 is fully compatible with the Sony FDR-AX43A.

Q: 9. I have a RX0 M2, I would like to get this mic to plug-in with it. This camera doesn't have the hit show. Do this mic need to be powered or only with the Jack cable the mic will have enough to get the electricity needed for the mic?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-G1 Ultracompact Camera-Mount Vlogger Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with and able to be powered by the microphone input connection on the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX0 II Digital Camera.

Q: 10. I get that the digital is compatible with only a couple of cameras but works in analog for other cameras with multi-interface shoe. But what exactly do I lose on analog? Is the sound quality different and do the directional patterns change?

A: This unit has 3 pickup pattern options to choose from, Cardioid, Omni, and Supercardioid. The big difference between digital versus analog operation is that in digital mode, the audio source being picked up doesn't have to go through additional analog converters to be printed to the video. This allows for cleaner audio recordings. If digital audio is not available on your camera, the analog connection will still produce quality audio recordings.
