The black TravelCoat Lens Cover for Nikon 400mm f/2.8G VR AF Lens from LensCoat is a 3.0mm thick shock-absorbing closed-cell neoprene lens cover that is made to be used without the lens hood. It is designed to fully protect the lens when not in use, without the need for a more comprehensive lens case. It allows more valuable room for packing and storage. The coat simply slides over the lens, and closes with a secure touch fastener. This version comes in a matte all-black finish to better blend in where desirable. Or, it can be used just for its protection value.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could you please explain exactly what Nikon refurbished means? Can you give examples as to why a lens would be refurbished? Does a refurbished lens still have the same manufacturer’s warranty as a new lens? Is it a US model or gray market model?

A: Hi, Refurbished items are products that for many reasons did not meet early quality controls at the factory so were not shipped initially. After testing, a manufacturer may determine a product meets all the specifications but does not want it sold as new. A “Refurb” is such an item; which has never been sold, meets the advertised specifications and includes a warranty which may be shorter than the original one offered for a “new” item.

Q: 2. Anyone using this lens with the FTZ adapter on a Z body? I can't wait any longer for Nikon to make a native Z longer than 200mm and need to do something....

A: This lens would work just fine along with the Nikon FTZ adapter on a Nikon Z body.

Q: 3. will this work on my D80?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm is compatible with the Nikon D80.

Q: 4. Will this lens work on the D3300?

A: When mounted on 3000 or 5000 series body the 80-400 sense will not automatically focus. It will work if you are ok with manually focusing. The 7000 series bodies will communicate fully with the 80-400.Hope this helps!

Q: 5. I am a professional astronomer who will need to buy a bunch of these lenses to observer the entire sky (ASAS-SN project). We need to know what the image quality is, namely so-called FWHM, how do we find out? Our previous version of thsi lesn delivers 12 arcsec FEHM.

A: In order that we may best assist you, please write us with the source of your information regarding your previous lens. provideo@bhphoto.com.

Q: 6. What is the recommended backpack (with good protection) to carry this lens with reverse hood attached to a Nikon D5 camera?

A: The Think Tank Photo Glass Limo Backpack (Black), BH # THGL is a suitable backpack for your D5 with this Nikon lens attached. https://bhpho.to/2K1XGcx

Q: 7. I have a D3. Can I use this AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens with the Nikon AF-S tele converter TC-17E II and retain autofocus?

A: Only in bright light. In dim light it will do a lot of hunting

Q: 8. Hey i Will ask you if the Nikon 400mm f2.8 do well on the new Nikon d5 I just have bought. And I have also the Nikon 300mm f4 and it is pretty sharp is the 400mm f2.8 sharper ore do you think it is around the same?

A: The Nikon f2.8 and D5 are an awesome team. The D5 by itself is incredible for low light and all other conditions. Recently used it at night in Disneyland to record the Water/Laser shows. Did a amazing job. I also like the D5 with my Nikon 80-400 lens for flexible shooting.

Q: 9. How is handholding this if it’s only being held while shooting (i.e. it spends most of the time in a bag/on a shoulder strap)?

A: The lens is much lighter than one would expect and the stabilization in it is phenomenal so hand holding shots is quite spectacular. Depending on the camera and how long you're shooting for it can get a bit heavy so I would recommend having a strap that slings from the body to the shoe of the lens for longer more comfortable shooting lengths.

Q: 10. will you ship this product to Finland? If, any additional costs beoynd shipping costs?

A: Nikon USA has restricted B&H from shipping their digital cameras, lenses, and flashes outside of the USA. So unfortunately, we would not be able to ship the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm lens to Finland.

I use this lens mainly for photographing my grandsons soccer games. It covers the field well, is fast to focus and easy to zoom. The lens is a little heavy but that's not really an issue.

I use this lense mainly for wildlife photos although it's also very handy for candid shots and sporting events. I like the speed of focus and the way it fits in my hand. I can't really find anything negative to say about this lense.

I have had this lens for a couple of weeks and have taken some great shots! It has a very versitile zoom range that has been great for outdoor use. It is a little heavy, but that is because of Nikon quality. If you want consistant shots, stick with the Nikon lens'. They may cost a little more, but quality isn't cheap and you will be rewarded with great pictures.

This is a great lens. Sharp, not too bulky or heavy, VR works great - I can get sharp handheld shots out to about 250mm. Worth the price and then some!
