The Vixen Optics EA 50.8mm to 43mm Adapter has a 50.8mm outer diameter, and one side has an internal 43mm female threading which perfectly matches the male threading upon Vixen's #3523 43mm DX Camera T-Adapter.  Typically, Vixen's telescopes themselves have a 60mm inner diameter focuser barrel, and include an adapter which reduces the 60mm size to 50.8mm (2") so that you can use various 2" visual accessories such as star diagonals.

This adapter, combined with the #3523 adapter and your SLR camera's specific Vixen T-mount, allows you to image with or without an eyepiece in the optical path.  If you choose to image without an eyepiece (called 'prime focus imaging'), you also have the benefit of being able to place a 48mm threaded filter within the optical path.

In some applications, the finished combination of (this adapter + the #3523 + T-Mount + SLR camera) needs to be placed further away from the telescope's objective than your focuser allows in order to focus properly.  In this case, Vixen offers the #2957 extension tubes, which are simply a 40mm long extension of the optical path that you would place between this adapter and the #3523 DX T-Adapter so that you could focus the camera.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is shift limited to aps-c? Can it be overridden?

A: The lens physically cannot shift or tilt more than 6mm.

Q: 2. Does the optic of this lens support for 50 Pixels camera (Ex. Canon 5ds/5ds r)?

A: It covers 24x36 with a couple of mm of movement. It's sharper than I expected, but not the 80+ line pairs per mm needed by a 50MP sensor to be critically sharp. Mind, there aren't many lenses that are.

Q: 3. Can someone with the Sony E mount version of the lens measure the height for me without the hood? I notice all the variants list a 3.3inch height, so clearly the sony mount one isn't adding the extra hight of the adapter that's basically fixed to the lens.

A: The manufacturer does not list the dimension and B&H agents are not able to open boxes to measure so our guesstimate is a length of 5.3".

Q: 4. Would this be the best macro option for the Sony a6500?

A: If you are looking for a wide angle macro lens for use on the Sony E-mount lens mount, then yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E would be my recommendation as the best option for your usage needs on the Sony Alpha a6500 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 5. The screw/tab thing on the bottom by the cap, what is it?

A: If you are referring to the lever at the end of the lens closest to the camera, that is for shift. It is not a tilt/shift lens but works a little like one. You can shift the lens in one direction up to about 6mm.

Q: 6. Is this TOTALLY manual, i.e. - no info at all translated to the camera? If so, how do you know what shutter speed to set at any given aperture with no exposure info? Thanks.

A: This lens is pretty much all manual, however, the camera can still read light coming into the sensor so you could still adjust your settings accordingly.

Q: 7. Will this lens work with the Nikon Z6 ?

A: Not natively, you would need to adapt this to the Z mount with a lens adapter like the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter (https://bhpho.to/2PwU1lm)

Q: 8. In the picture, it looks like an adapter is attached, does it require an adapter for Sony E?

A: No, it comes attached with the adapter. There are a few different versions sop make sure to select the correct one.

Q: 9. I just opened the box and the focus ring won't budge. What am I doing wrong or is it diffective?

A: Hi Coreen! Be aware that this lens is manual focus only and won't autofocus due to lack of lens-camera links and contacts, the same applies to the aperture settings, camera won't autoexpose or auto-adjust apertures, it's back to basics... Otherwise the focusing ring should turn when operated manually, if not, then the lens is deffective.

Q: 10. How many degrees of rotation on the focus ring? Also is aperture ring stepless?

A: There is approx 100 degrees of rotation on the focus ring, and the aperture ring is stepless.
