Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it record .wav files and mp3 files simultaneously?

A: no

Q: 2. Can I connect this recorder directly to my GH5 so that when I am recording video the MixPre-3 is automatically recording sound? In other words, so that I don't have to remember to start and stop the MixPre separately from pressing record on my camera?

A: The MixPre-3 II uses record triggers via HDMI and/or timecode to automatically stop and start recording when the camera to which it is connected starts/stops recording. The MixPre-3 II should accept a record trigger from a GH5, but I would suggest testing this to confirm, as both camera and MixPre-3 II firmware changes over time can cause compatibility issues of which we may be unaware.

Q: 3. Does this unit respond to HDMI record triggers and HDMI timecode from Sony Z90 and NX80?

A: Yes, the recorder features a 1 x HDMI Type-D SMPTE Timecode Input.

Q: 4. can i add a 3.5mm jack microphone?

A: An adapter would be required. Kopul A-XMMF 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter B&H # KOAXMMF: https://bhpho.to/3DC1cAN The Kopul A-XMMF is an adapter that lets you connect a mic equipped with a 3.5mm TRS connector to the XLR input of a professional camera, recorder, or mixing console. The VXLR is terminated by a 3.5mm female TRS connector at one end and an XLR male connector at the other.

Q: 5. I am trying to decide btw Mixpre 3 and Mixpre 6, and leaning toward the MixPre 6 due to greater number of XLRs. But I notice one curious difference: the operating temperature max is listed at 140 degrees for the 3, but under 90 degrees for the 6. What accounts for this large difference? I'm not planning to work in the Sahara, but a standard summer day can easily reach 90 degrees so am concerned. Any advice on this? Have other customers run into heat problems with either the 3 or the 6?

A: We are correcting this error on our website. Thank you fo bringing this to our attention. Both items have the same environmental specifications: MixPre-6: Operating Temperature -4 to140°F / -20 to 60°C Storage Temperature -40 to 185°F / -40 to 85°C MixPre-3 II: Operating Temperature -4 to 140°F / -20 to 60°C Storage Temperature -40 to 185°F / -40 to 85°C For details related to construction and design: Sound Design: support@sounddevices.com +1 608.524.0625 main 800.505.0625 toll free

Q: 6. Does the Mix Pre 3 can record trigger with the Red Komodo?

A: Recording on the Sound Devices MixPre-3 II Field Recorder can be triggered via timecode or HDMI timecode. If the RED Digital Cinema Komodo Camera can output a timecode trigger signal it should be able to trigger recording on the MixPre-3 II.

Q: 7. Can I jam sync timecode using my Fujifilm X-T3?

A: Thank you for your question. Neither the Fujifilm or the Mix pre 3 generate time code. You would need to get an external time code syncing device and input the devices into the mic input on camera and the TRS AUX in on the mix pre. I suggest using the Tentacle Sync Sync E Timecode Generator with Bluetooth (Dual Set) BH #TETE2

Q: 8. Does this recorder, can record 3 xlr inputs and one stereo from the aux in 5 individual tracks?

A: It can only record 3 audio sources at once. That can be any combination of XLR and AUX-IN sources.

Q: 9. Will this work with an Alexa Plus?

A: Yes, you can use the Mixpre-3 II with the camera but will need adapters to connect the recorder's 3.5mm TRS output to the camera's XLR 5-pin audio input. You could use a 3.5mm to XLR 3-pin male cable such as the Kopul Stereo Right-Angle 1/8" Male Mini-Jack to XLR Male Cable - 3' (B&H # KORSMXM03) combined with a TecNec 5-Pin XLR Male to 3-Pin XLR Female .(B&H # TEXLM5XLF18I).r

Q: 10. Is there a "hold" button to keep it from accidentally stopping recording when record button is bumped?

A: No, there is not.
