Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a Canon XA30 and a 7” monitor?

A: Yes it should. This has a 10 pound load capacity. The combination of an XA30 and 7" monitor should be well below that.

Q: 2. Will this work on a BMP4KCC?

A: It should work great with the BM. I use mine with a d-810, Sony EX, and a tiny cannon camera as well. It's very versatile.

Q: 3. What is the difference in this and the flycam redking

A: The Glidecam is the brand that created this stabilizer style.

Q: 4. I have GH4 and a cage for it as well. i know balancing will be an issue if I mount to the cage. Can I use this with a 7 inch monitor mounted to the base? a freeworld monitor to be exact.

A: Almost from the beginning when Garret Brown invented the Steadicam, the monitor has been mounted at the base. This make complete sense because you can be situationally aware of where your feet are going. We feel you should not have any particular issues here since the camera, the cage and the monitor do not exceed the weight capacity of the rig. You should be able to balance. If you do have issues, do contact us. provideo@bhphoto.com

Q: 5. What is the total weigh of this? I am concerned it will be too heavy with a Nikon D800. Thanks!

A: The Glidecam XR-PRO Handheld Camera Stabilizer is large so it can fly large cameras of up to 10 lbs. Consequently it is large and heavy itself at 8.8lbs. So if you were to mount a Nikon D800 plus a heavy lens like the 24-70 f/2.8 (which together weighs approximately 4lbs/1.8kg) you wind up with a rig that weighs somewhere between 8 to 12 lbs. You may not like that much weight. Be that as it may, the reality is this Glidecam is actually too big for what you want to do. I would suggest the much smaller Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System With 577 QR Plate Kit B&H # GLHD2000K (B&H Kit). This stabilizer plus the Nikon 800 and lens would be about 6.5lbs, a much more do-able weight to carry for long takes. Now do understand that these kind of stabilizers rely on you and your operating skills as much as the stabilizer itself to create smooth moves. It does take time to learn how to balance and more time to learn how to effectively fly the rig. (Do not pull this out of it's box on the morning of your first job with it.) I will guarantee you, if you do take the time to acquire the skill, what you get is a very organic, fluid motion that cannot be achieved by other means.

Q: 6. I have a Sony A7C and Sony 20mm f1.8 & 24-105 f4. How difficult is it to rebalance in the field when switching between lenses with a significant weight difference?

A: Using a stabilizer like the Glidecam XR-PRO Handheld Camera Stabilizer is a skill that is acquired from diligent practice. As you learn, the felicity to adjust balance becomes second nature and is an expected part of the process. In the end you get beautiful, organic moves.

Q: 7. Is the top cheese plate removable? If so, does it have a 3/8 -16 thread so I can attach my own quick release, and shave weight from the top? Thanks!

A: The plate is removable, you can attach your own plate - any brand any size- Keep in mind the least weight, the longer you would handle your camera.

Q: 8. Hi Would this work with my Lumix GX8 with 14-45mm lens?

A: Yes you can. The XR-Pro has a load capacity between 0 to 10 pounds. You will be able to balance a lighter load such as the Lumix GX8 with a 14-45mm lens.

Q: 9. Is this glidecam only for 10 lb cameras?

A: i've seen people using this with gopros, which is probably around 1lb

Q: 10. Which quick release plate should I order with this beauty please and thanks?

A: I personally got the Manfrotto 577 quick release plate because it allows you even MORE freedom to move the camera forward and backward without having to move the entire base plate. This helps with changing from like a small pancake lens to like a big zoom. You can just push the camera farther back and farther forward depending on what you need. (And it's a lot easier than unscrewing all four of the bottom screws and moving the head forward.)
