The Tiffen 125mm Coarse Thread Hyper Star Filter is designed to be used perpendicular to a point light source such as the sun, a light bulb, or a candle. Within the filter's surface is a combination of fine, etched line types. Those lines help to create a starburst effect with 14 primary diffraction spikes that extend from the light source which is also given an elliptical shape. The Tiffen 125mm Coarse Thread Hyper Star Filter arranges those diffraction spikes in a pattern where seven primary diffraction spikes are grouped along both sides of the elliptically-shaped light source that are furthest from each other.

This filter is most effective for pictures where the light source used to generate the starburst effect is a highlight with a significant degree of contrast from the rest of the image. It is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity, and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the direction of the diffraction spikes and overall orientation of the starburst effect.

Creates a starburst effect from point light sources within an image

Starburst effect features 14 primary diffraction spikes which extend from the light source which is given an elliptical shape

Diffraction spikes are arranged in a pattern where seven primary diffraction spikes are grouped along both sides of the elliptically-shaped light source that are furthest from each other

Aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight

Filter ring can be rotated for direction control of the diffraction spikes and overall orientation of the starburst effect

125mm front filter threads for coarse rear threads allow for use with other filters

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Since this came out a few years ago, are there any 3rd party filter holders like the Fotodiox Wonderpana series?

A: At this time, there are no specific filter systems that can fit the front of this particular lens.

Q: 2. What is the part number of the lens cap and where can I get said lens cap replacement?

A: Unfortunately the closest thing to a lens cap that we have for this lens would be the following: PODFNDR82

Q: 3. Can this lens accept filters? I assume not, but a confirmation would be nice.

A: The Voigtlander Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical Lens for Sony E does not have a filter thread, so cannot accept standard screw-in filters. Im not finding any filter holder options for the lens at this time. So, it looks as though filters could not be used with the lens.

Q: 4. When will this sense arrive ?

A: Please email us at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a for assistance with your inquiry.

Q: 5. Is there a hard infinity stop, or this lens can focus past infinity?

A: The extreme wide lens does barely need focusing, at 5.6 everything is in focus from 2ft to infinity and you can use hyperfocal to even increase the depth of field. See photo of the lens.

Q: 6. As the lens cap is a slip on type, how to to get a replacement/spare rigid (not the op/tech soft type ?

A: There are no other hard lens caps for this lens at this time.

Q: 7. Will my old Voigtlander lenses fit (from the film days) on the new Sony NON SLR high end bodies?

A: If M-mount, will work with adapter.

Q: 8. Does the lens stop down or do I have to stop it down manually before shooting ?

A: The lens will stop down automatically when you take the photo.

Q: 9. Does the CV 10mm cause edge discoloration on a Leica M? Thank you.

A: Ken Rockwell claims that all of the super-wide Heliars have rear nodal points located too close to the digital sensors in Leica M rangefinders. If you shoot black and white it's no problem. Film too. You can always create a custom Lightroom color profile to correct for the magenta edge discoloration if this concerns you.

Q: 10. Is there a filter adapter for the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 lens. If so what is the filter size?

A: Due to the bulb shaped front element, there is not a screw in filter nor does it have a drop in back of the front element. You'd have to rig a Lee 4x6 filter or something similar.
