A: The base is fixed to the column on this particular stand. A: These aren't designed to break down like that. You can, but it isn't designed to be quick and easy. Should be safe as long as you put it back together tightly. I would recommend just packing it flat, or buying a different c-stand designed to break down like that.

A: 11' stand and a 40" grip arm is just over 14'.

A: Overkill. Unless your strobe weighs up to 22 lb (10 kg).

A: My mesurment is from the longest leg to the opposing edge of the center post is about 21''.

A: The leg is about 19 inches long. So, if the two steps are not any deeper then about 8 inches each it should work.

A: I don't know what the maximum load the arm can handle extended 2/3 out is but 8 pounds is nothing. For outdoor shoots I use 3 Nikon SB-800 Speed mounted onto a Wescott Triple Threat Speedlite bracket/bare flash or shoot through umbrella in conjunction with 3 Nikon Phottix Odin receivers for easy as pie high speed sync outdoor portraits.
