Also, I know you can't set the aperture with the tubes, so can I still shoot in manual or do I need AUTO?

A: Everything should work fine with what you have. Since this is a Auto version and not the Manual version, you can control the aperture of the lens with the tubes in place. Be sure that that on the camera, the aperture is open all the way.
