Q: 1. Im a birding photographer and looking for a travel tripod..How well would this tripod work with a Wimberley 200 + Nikon Z9 + 1.4 ext + 500 MM F4 FL ED VR lens, about 15lbs? Any other recommendations?

A: The Really Right Stuff Ascend-14 Long Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod will not support the Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens with the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III, and ZTZ adapter on the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head. You need a series 3 tripod for your gear. The Really Right Stuff TVC-34L Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod, BH #RETVC34LMK2, is an excellent option. The TVC-34L weighs only one more pound than the Ascend-14.

Q: 2. I am new to macro photography. I have the Panosonic G85 and the Olympus pro 12-100 Lens. How much closer will I be able to get to my subject using these extension tubes? I have seen other questions that show calculations but I dont really understand the answers. I am am amateur photographer.

A: The length of tube divide the length of focal length equal to the magnification. Example: 26mm tube/10mm lens = 2.6 magnification. If your lens have 1:1 magnification ratio then you have total 2.6 plus 1.1 =3.7 magnification.

Q: 3. Will this work with Zeiss Otus 55mm and 85mm also Milvus 100 f2 and APO 135 f2 zeiss?

A: As long as those lenses fit a Nikon f mount I see no reason they would. Not work.

Q: 4. Will these tubes allow a one to one copy ratio...., that is, can I copy slides with the digital camera, full frame to full frame?

A: Yes, with these extension tubes you can depending on the lens get over 1:1 magnification.

Q: 5. Would RRS Ascend 14L legs and an Aratech GP Ballhead make for a combo? Would head fit to platform well? Could the combo handle a Nikon D500 w/ 500 F5.6 PF lens easily? What might be the upper limit of lenses for this combination?

A: Yes this would be a great combo, the head would fit to the platform well, it could easily handle a D500 with 500mm PF, and the largest lens that you could safely hold according to the specs would be almost any of them!

Q: 6. I just received the Vello Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon. I have a D90 camera, and I'm using a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 35 mm 1:1.8k G lens. I tried using the 12mm extension tube and see nothing through the view finder. I tried it outside with plenty of sunshine, and yes, the lens cap was off, but I still didn't see anything. Also, I know you can't set the aperture with the tubes, so can I still shoot in manual or do I need AUTO?

A: Everything should work fine with what you have. Since this is a Auto version and not the Manual version, you can control the aperture of the lens with the tubes in place. Be sure that that on the camera, the aperture is open all the way. While the image will be dimmer than without the tubes, you should see clearly enough. If you still have an issue, please email us with your experience. prophoto@bhphoto.com.

Q: 7. Will these allow you to reverse your lens for even greater magnification? I'm sure you'd have to shoot full manual if you did.

A: No, a reverse adapter is a different accessory and method to get macro closeness. If you are using G lenses with no aperture ring, the reverse method is problematic because you wont have aperture control. These tubes send the aperture setting to the lens from the camera.

Q: 8. Is the mount made of metal?

A: Yes, it's made of metal. It works well with my camera and lenses.

Q: 9. Does it fit canon eos 550d?

A: Accoring to Gogole, the Canon 550D is the US Rebel T2i. This takes the EF and EF-s lens mount sizes. Yes, it will fir your camera.

Q: 10. Can this tripod be used both with and without the center column. If so what else would needed for use without center column?

A: The Really Right Stuff Ascend-14 Long Travel Carbon Fiber Tripod can only be used with a center column. It does not need to be raised, but it needs to be in the tripod.
