The Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging MBAG120PN Padded Tripod Bag (Black) is a padded ballistic nylon bag designed to carry Bogen/Manfrotto tripod with a head up to 45" long. As with all soft-sided bags, an item's girth may reduce this number. Thermoform padding holds the tripod in place and protects it, especially the head, during transport. It also serves a double purpose by protecting the tripod's hard edges when it is carried. The zipper extends down the length of the bag, but also fully opens the top end of the bag. The end opening allows for faster "quiver" style extraction and insertion of the tripod. The inner pocket holds accessories (such as video head pan bars).The bag is tapered to follow the shape of the tripod and head.

The tripod legs fit comfortably in the narrower end and extra space is allowed for the larger volume of the head at the wider end. This also means it's easier to put the tripod and head in the bag, even if the head levers and knobs are fitted and jut out slightly. The bag includes a shoulder strap and an end carry handle. A: Yes, I use this bag for the MT055XPRO3 tripod and the MHXPRO-3W 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head (which is much larger than the 496RC2 ball head). This combination barely fits, so you have to position it properly as you close the zipper around the head, but it does fit. Since the 496RC2 head is more than an inch shorter and doesn't have the protruding handles of the MHXPRO-3W, your tripod/head combination would definitely fit in the MBAG75PN.

Q: 8. The specs say the interior dimension is 33.5 in length ... yet it also says will hold tripod and head up to 35 ... which is it?

A: I have a MHXPRO-3W head mounted on a 055 tripod (29.5 total length)that fits in the MBAG90PN bag with room to spare. I think that 33 -33.5 is a reasonable maximum length for the MBAG90PN. Note that the bag is not a simple cylinder. The shortest distance from the bottom of the bag interior to the base of the oval zipper is less than the longest distance from the bottom of the bag interior to the top of the oval zipper. If I needed a bag for a tripod with a mounted head combined length of 35 , I would select a larger bag than the MBAG90PN. Good Luck!
