Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would you light a subject from above since the slot is on the side?

A: In order to light a subject from the side a end-user would need a c-stand. Please review the following item. Impact Turtle Base C-Stand Kit (10.75', Chrome) BH #IMLSCT40MK • MFR #LS-CT40MK https://bhpho.to/3X374MJ

Q: 2. What is the size of the shaft on the umbrella?

A: The diameter is the same standard size of any umbrella. The total length is 15 1/2 inches. It doesn't reach out as far as the diffuser panel.

Q: 3. I know you can use a speedlight with the Westcott 43. To use it with the speedlight, you need an adapter of t some type? I you don't need a ring.

A: As the Westcott 43 Apollo Orb Softbox is built on an umbrella frame, you would simply need an umbrella bracket adapter, such as the Impact Umbrella Bracket with Adjustable Shoe, B&H # IMUB, and a standard light stand to use a speedlight flash with the Westcott 43 Apollo Orb.

Q: 4. Is this light surface bigger than 24 x 24 softbox? I mean, will be a bigger light source?

A: It's 43 in diameter, so the area of surface illumination is almost 3 times the size of the illuminated surface of a 24 x 24 softbox.

Q: 5. Are you able to adjust the angle of the Octabox?

A: Yes. The rod holding the umbrella(Octabox) and the vertical rod connected to the feet meet in a joint. The angle is 90 degrees. The joint can be adjusted to plus or minus angles. The limiting factor is not the range of the joint but the length of the slot in the Umbrella. The slot is about 10 inches Plus or minus. The slot is 22 inches from center. The arc tangent of (10/22) is about 20 degrees. This seems to match the real life range of the tilt. That is 20 degrees above or below the horizon.

Q: 6. I have a canon 600ex-RT, do I need any additional accessory? Or what's inside the box of this item is enough?

A: Well if you buy this kit, and you said you have the flash, the only additional thing obviously that you're going to need it is the Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter to shoot the, other than the kit comes complete.

Q: 7. Are there any CFL fixtures that will work with this? It seems a lot of the interfit or impact fixtures are too big. Looking for this to pull double duty for stills as well as video.

A: The Westcott D5 will work with the Orb. The Head can be used with CFL bulbs up to 85w each but the modifier is rated at only 300w and the larger shape and size of the 85w would not be recommended. 5 of the 50w High CRI bulbs (total 250w) will fit and the D5 can be mounted in either the shoot through or reflective mode. When mounting, Use the entire length of the umbrella shaft on the Orb to maintain the maximum airflow between the bulbs and the fabric of the modifier.

Q: 8. Can I safely use this with a 500 Watt, Lowel-V (umbrella mount) Tungsten light and or will it cause a fire if I do?

A: The Orb is rated at 300 Watt maximum for continuous light so I would not suggest its use with any continuous light with higher Wattage like your 500 Watt Lowel-V.

Q: 9. Would this work with my Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4?

A: Yes, The D-lite is a shorter body and will be very effective. We use the orb with either 1 x elinchrom or 3 x standard flashes with the 3 flash adaptor.

Q: 10. I have a Nikon SB-910.... would I be use this just using a remote flash on a commando mode with my built in flash?

A: The material of the Westcott 43 Apollo Orb Speedlite Kit does allow infrared light to enter the unit, so a Nikon DSLR camera with a built-in flash that has wireless Commander capabilities can trigger the Nikon SB-910 Speedlight Flash inside the Apollo Orb. However, do note that range may be limited, and you may have to vary the position of the softbox setup for best results.
