Im not sure precisely how it alters the close focus ratio in terms of a ratio, but of course it i creasess it because otherwise you wouldnt be able to focus on the object in a macro way--- if your question is, does it distort or alter the look of the focal length my answer would be no, but my experience is that it facilotates different looks with different lenses (tested 28-200 and zooms as well), my advice would be to experiment--- The only con I sont believe is any fault of the device--- that is that you generally pick/up a limited depth of field inherent to the close macro effect, which you may or may not like working with or around....

A: I don't know for sure but I just tried it with 3 lens: Nikon 80-210 2.8D and it only worked with the 12 mm ring on 80. Try different rings and it can't focus. Nikon 35-70 2.8 D. I could not get it to work at all (maybe in part because I could not get the manual focus to work.) Sigma 18-35 mm- I could not find manual focus and it would not focus on auto. You have to be able to use manual focus and my guess is the extension tubes will not work due due to the focal distances. In any case I doubt that it will work with all three parts of the extension tube combined as it only worked at 80 mm on the 80-200 with the 12 mm piece. It did not work with the 24mm or 36 mm. I have used in different combination and all together with prime lens 24, 50 and macro. They are a lot of fun and a 50 lens is not expensive.
