Q: 5. Can I connect an external and better quality preamp without sound degradation?

A: I don't see why not. The preamps on the H5 are pretty good, but certainly not the best. You could probably turn the gain down on the H5 and the gain up on the output of your external preamp for minimal distortion, and record at 24bit 96khz. If you want stereo or multi-track (you need a adapter for the H5, the H6 has 4 XML-ins), you'd have to have preamp with an out for each track.

A: Hi Mehran, Not certain I bought this newer version for a friend unfortunately the firmware update was not included and not available to download so it just didn't work. Previous model worked great! Had to return it trouble free with B&H so that was good. Good Luck

A: I haven't used it in those situations you described. I use it mainly for weddings. Vocally its bang on and is very clear and great crisp sound.
