Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens auto focus with a D7000 and a TC-17E II 1.7x teleconverter?

A: While you can use the AF-S 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G lens with the TC-17E II and the D7000, you will lose autofocus. Using this lens with a teleconverter, the lens will only retain autofocus with the newer Nikon DSLRs that can retain autofocus at f/8 (D4, D800/D800E, D600, D610, D7100).

Q: 2. will this work D5300?

A: Yes.

Q: 3. will this work on my D80?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm is compatible with the Nikon D80.

Q: 4. Does this lens come with a lens hood?

A: It does. Also has a nice padded lens case.

Q: 5. I have a Nikon D500 and wondered how this lens would be in low light for birding at all focal lengths?

A: Should be good. The lens is heavy, so I recommend a tripod or at least a monopod.

Q: 6. Hi, camera is a D-810 with the VR 80-400mm f4.5-f5.6 D ED AF and can I use the TC 17 E II teleconverter?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens and the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II may be used with one another. However, do note that autofocus will not be possible when using this combination. When you use the 1.7x teleconverter on the 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens, it will become the approximate equivalent of a 136-680mm f/7.3-9.5 lens. According to the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens' instruction manual, the lens will not autofocus with this combination, even on cameras that support f/8 autofocus such as the Nikon D810 DSLR camera. As such, you would have to focus the lens manually.

Q: 7. Can you tell me what the sweet spot is on this lens?

A: While it is recommended to test each lens personally to see what would be considered the sweet spot of your lens, for most lenses, the sweet spot for sharpness is typically 2-3 f-stops from maximum aperture. As such, that would make the sweet spot of the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens somewhere between f/9-11 to f/13-16.

Q: 8. will you ship this product to Finland? If, any additional costs beoynd shipping costs?

A: Nikon USA has restricted B&H from shipping their digital cameras, lenses, and flashes outside of the USA. So unfortunately, we would not be able to ship the Nikon AF-S 80-400mm lens to Finland.

Q: 9. Is the Nikon 80 to 400 good on the Nikon D 850. I have the 28 to 300 so how much will I get using the 300 to 400

A: The Nikon 80-400 is a great lens for the D850. The extra 100mm could be really crucial for sports or wildlife photography.

Q: 10. oN MY ORGINAL BOX, it states compatible equip , ie TC-201 but only viewing this teleconv , this converter does list My Lense VR 80-400 4.5-15.6 AF.Will it work with this lense ??

A: The TC-201 pre-dates the lens in terms of existence and its literature has simply not been updated to reflect compatibility with this new model. The information included with the new lens is accurate. Keep in mind the TC-201 does not support autofocus and may cause vignetting.
