Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is it possible to manually tilt as it tracks? Or does it tilt automatically
A: As I see it, the design is strong enough to pan/tilt/dolly manually. However, the motorized dolly is accomplished with a belt and I suspect imparting any manual force probably will cause unwanted jiggle.
Q: 2. I realize this is a subjective question, but how loud is this when panning/tilting? I'm thinking of using it at the back of a church sanctuary, directly behind a pew. It wouldn't have to be whisper quiet, but can't be distracting or startling if we moved the camera during a quiet moment.
A: Mike, I'm very familiar with the church environment and what it takes to be felt and not seen; or in this situation heard. This unit is extremely quiet and will not be a distraction, even during the preaching of a sermon.
Q: 3. Can you program presets so you can have the camera re-point to a couple previously defined directions?
A: No. This can only be manually operated.
Q: 4. The option AC power cord (Bescor PS-260), how long is the cord?
A: 20 feet
Q: 5. What cable connector is used on the MP-101? I'd like to use an Arduino to control the pan and tilt. I do not want to cut up the cable to do this.
A: Greetings, Joe. I think I understand your intention but I'm not sure you can achieve it with the Bescor MP-101. To confirm, the unit uses a 7-pin (female) DIN connector to support its wired remote equipped with a 7-pin (male) DIN connector. The seven pins are required to allow the MP-101 to pan, tilt and (in combination) move diagonally. It looks like the Arduino uses a bayonet-style mount that probably has only a signal and ground connection. How you'd adapt that to provide full Bescor functionality is uncertain. If you want to experiment, Bescor sells a 25' extension cable with 7-pin M/F DIN connectors on the ends and you could cut that up to work on wiring options. An alternative would be to consider using a Camranger wireless WiFi controller instead. It works with both the MP-101 as well as Camranger's branded equivalent and provides full wireless motion control using a proprietary app on your smart device. That solution has performed very well for me. You might want to check it out!
Q: 6. Does this device work only for panning or can it be used to change a camcorder position and hold it?
A: It has two modes; automatic and manual. In Automatic, you can set a range of pan, and it will continue to sweep back and forth. It also has a plug-in remote control with four arrows, up/down and left/right. If you set the mode to manual, you can use the remote control to pan or tilt, and the device stays where it is when you release the arrow key. There's also a speed adjust on the remote so you can change how fast it moves when you press the arrow.
Q: 7. What's the minimal speed? This would be useful to know for timelapses...
A: The shortest interval between shots is one second. But if you are asking about minimal speed for a time lapse that is say 60 degrees it depends on the delay between shots and the amount of motion between shots. Another example of that is if you are using a minimum motion of about 0.1 degree that is 600 shots. The length of time again depends on the delay between shots.
Q: 8. I would like to connect this to my Avipas Joystick. Is that possible?
A: The Bescor MP-1AC Motorized Pan & Tilt Head Kit does not electronically communicate with the Avipas Joystick.
Q: 9. Help me guys. I need 330 feet (100 m) cable for Bescor Motorized Pan Head. Where can I find this? Do you have any recommendations
A: wireless is a better way.
Q: 10. how can i slow down the horizontal speed thank you?
A: Hi, apparently you need the additional part of the PT Hub which will allow you to then slow-down the speed through your Iphone/ Ipad/ android device. I also made the mistake of not buying the PT Hub when I bought the MP-360 Tripod head,... so now I'll have to go back and buy it... good luck !!
