The Stereo VideoMic On-Camera Microphone from Rode is a high-quality microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras, and portable audio recorders. It features two high-resolution 1/2" condenser capsules mounted in a fixed X/Y stereo array, providing a natural stereo recording, while offering a high level of rear rejection.

The Stereo VideoMic can be used to capture environmental and ambient sounds, as well as live music. A built-in shockmounting system isolates the Stereo VideoMic's capsule and electronics from its mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that can cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone.

Other features include a standard sized shoe mount for mounting on cameras, a 3/8" thread in the base for mounting to a boom pole or stand, a high-pass filter at 80 Hz to prevent low-end noise, and a -10 dB pad that allows for the recording of loud sound sources. The Rode Stereo VideoMic is powered with a standard 9 Volt battery.

The Rode Stereo VideoMic features true X/Y stereo pick up for accurate ambience reproduction. Excellent off-axis rejection minimizes residual noise.

The Stereo VideoMic features a -10 dB Pad switch for enhanced headroom and minimal distortion.

The versatile shoe mount allows the microphone to be mounted to camcorders, stands, or boom poles.

The Stereo VideoMic features a permanently attached shockmount with a camera mounting shoe underneath. The shockmount features replaceable rubber O-rings that protect against noise caused by abrupt movement and shock.

A high-pass filter switch eliminates room ambiance and noise below 80 Hz. This results in improved intelligibility while recording around machinery, air conditioners, and traffic.

The condenser element is powered with a standard 9-V battery.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this microphone work with Fujifilm X100F? What cables do I need?

A: The RODE VideoMic GO II Ultracompact Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone cannot be used with the FUJIFILM X100F Digital Camera because the X100F does not have a microphone input jack.

Q: 2. Does the Rode VideoMic GO II mic require the Female 1/4"-20 to Male 3/8"-16 Thread Adapter to put on a tripod? Or can it be screwed onto the tripod without the thread adapter?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic GO II does require use of the Impact Female 1/4"-20 to Male 3/8"-16 Thread Adapter (or similar thread adapter) in order to attach the mic to a tripod. The female thread on the VideoMic GO II is 3/8"-16 and the male thread on the tripod is 1/4"-20, so the adapter is needed to convert the thread on the mic to 1/4"-20.

Q: 3. Will this work on an iPhone if connected to a lighting cable adapter?

A: Yes, per Rode you can use the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm adapter.

Q: 4. How is the shielding on this mic? My original Rode Video Mic Pro picks up RF spray from my Hollyland transmitter.

A: From reviews of the VideoMic NTG, it seems that the shielding is improved over other models. Most reviews state that RF interference has not been a problem.

Q: 5. Does it matter if you use USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1?

A: The Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is functional for use with all current USB generation connections.

Q: 6. Will this microphone work with a macbook pro?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic Pro+ can be connected to a MacBook Pro when used with a USB audio interface to enable compatibility. As an easy-to-use option, the Audio-Technica Consumer ATR2x-USB 3.5mm to USB 2.0 Type-C Audio Adapter (B&H # AUATR2XUSB) provides a 3.5mm TRS mic input as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack to monitor the audio while recording. If you want a shotgun style microphone for a camera that also has the ability to connect directly to a computer without the need for additional equipment, the Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (B&H # ROVMNTG) and Rode VideoMic GO II Ultracompact Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (B&H # ROVMGII) are great options. Both mics include a built-in USB output for direct connection to a computer.

Q: 7. Can this be plugged directly into the GoPro Hero 8? Without an adapter?

A: Yes, the USB-C input of the GoPro Hero 8 should allow direct USB connection from the Rode VideoMic GO II Ultracompact Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 8. Does this Rode NTG for Android work with the Samsung S22 Ultra?

A: Yes, this microphone will work with the Samsung S22 Ultra.

Q: 9. Is the shoe metal as opposed to being plastic?

A: The shoe on the RODE VideoMic Pro+ Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone is made of metal.

Q: 10. Is this mic suitable for capturing bird calls outdoors and, if so, what would be its useful range?

A: The Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Shotgun Microphone can be used for capturing bird calls outdoors. The optimum operating distance will vary depending on the environment. The mic is very directional and it is designed to pick up sounds from directly in front. In a quiet environment it will do a better job of picking up sounds that are further away. If there is a fair amount of noise in the background, you will be able to focus in on the sounds that are up to about 6 feet away most clearly. A good way to estimate what the mic will pick up is to use your ears and if your ears can hear the sound clearly, the mic should be able to hear similarly when pointed in that direction. If your camera has a headphone output you can use headphones to monitor the audio while recording.

Love the Rycote Lyre Suspention! It works great and is durable (don't need to worry about replacing rubberbands). I use the mic with a JuicedLink preamp on a DSLR so I chose this one over the VideoMic Pro to save myself a few bucks. Just like any mic, if you can get within three feet of your talent/subject, it sounds great. Anything farther than that and your mileage may vary.

As a substitute for the in-camera mic on the current crop of DSLRs, the Rode VideoMic does a superb job of capturing sound at a very attractive price. The Lyre suspension isolates the mic from the camera body, and helps eliminate sound of the IS in the lens, and other close camera handling issues in a run and gun situation.
