Both are designed to block extraneous light and come with a lanyard to wear the loupe around your neck. The Hoodloupe has a built-in +/- 3 diopter, whereas the Elvid OptiView 50 does not have a diopter. That being said, Hoodman does not list the magnification of the Hoodman HoodLoupe Outdoor LCD Viewfinder for 3.2" Screens.

A: Hi Bill, No, there is no magnification but it does make it easy to view in bright areas. I do shooting for photo and video in some bright sun and this allow you to see what you are doing. It does allow you to adjust/focus to your vision. I found it to be perfect for my needs.

A: I could not get it to work on my screen, so I returned the Loupe.
