The 9.8' chrome-finished, 40" C-Stand Turtle Base Kit from Lowel is a staple on any film or video set. The kit includes the C-stand and a 40" grip arm with a fixed 2.5" grip head.

The C-stand's 40" double riser center shaft, like all the components in this kit, boasts large ergonomic locking knobs that fit the hand perfectly and provide the torque for a firm grip when locking down. The popular turtle base employs spring-loaded legs for rapid setup, breakdown, transport, and storage. They also angle in ways that traditional stands can't, making them ideal in tight or unusual spaces. They're also perfectly constructed to have sandbags draped on them. The base is removable, leaving a 1 1/8" Junior receiver that will accept other risers or an adapter that allows near-floor shooting.

The kit's grip arm has a 2,5" grip head mounted on the end of a 40" piece of steel tubing, which is machined to create a rough texture to ensure a firm grip. The grip head consists of a pair of rotating aluminum discs attached to a 5/8" (16mm) receiver. The discs have four different-sized V-shaped jaws to accept any accessory size. The jaws feature teeth that securely grab whatever is mounted between the plates securely.

You can use the arm like a small boom to mount light fixtures or accessories on the end of it like a mini-boom. One of the clever features of the arm is the milled flat surface at the end of the shaft for securing light fixtures with a 5/8" receiver and prevent rotation or twisting of the fixture. The grip head uses an oversized T-handle that fits your hand perfectly and nonslip aluminum friction discs that maintain its durability over time, offering the user positive locking strength and precise positioning. The included 2.5" grip head from Lowel has 5/8" and 3/8" holes for mounting grip arms, lights, and other grip gear such as scrims and flags. The head's oversized T-handle fits perfectly in the hand and allows for maximum torque when tightening down.

The turtle base C-stand is outfitted with spring-loaded legs for fast and easy deployment and breakdown. Pros love this feature because there's a notch for each leg and you can set up the stand with a perfect spread in seconds. The turtle base is removable to accept other risers for different heights, or for an adapter which will enable shooting at near-floor levels.

A staple on any set, the included grip arm and head are made of sturdy steel with a 5/8" hole for other grip arms and Baby pin attachments. A 3/8" hole accommodates gobos and flags, while the oversized T-handle provides the torque for a rock-solid grip.

The well-thought-out grip arm features a 5/8" stud and features a milled flat surface at the end of the shaft for securing light fixtures with a 5/8" receiver and prevent rotation or twisting of the fixture.

When you need a lot of torque for tightening the locking knob for a heavy load, a small T-handle just doesn't get the job done. The arm's large ergonomic T-handle is easy to grip, and a perfect size for your hand.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this stand connect to the Aputure Amaran AL-528S ?

A: Yes, this stand can work with the Aputure Amaran AL-528S, with the provided stand adapter.

Q: 2. Will this stand hold an Einstein Strobe Light and a Large Softbox when attached to the boom pole?

A: Yes, it will. You need a baby pin (available here) to mate the Einstein to the grip knuckle of the C-stand. Be sure to suspend all the weight over the longest leg of the base for safety, or else the entire setup will tip over. I have a 48 Octabox and it is no problem on this stand.

Q: 3. Wheels

A: Being that the riser for this stand is tapered at 1 1/8 at the bottom, you can use the Manfrotto 299BBASE Wheeled Light Stand Base with Universal Head B&H # MA299BBASE which accepts the riser. An image is shown below for reference.

Q: 4. Is the base where it folds made out of plastic or metal? The ones I currently have are plastic and are consistently breaking.

A: The knuckles holding legs to the post are made of metal.

Q: 5. How many grip knuckles are included?

A: Just the one (as pictured.) There is also a knuckle fixed to an arm but only one that can be separated.

Q: 6. I am not able to fold it. th air cushion seems to be working too well that I cannot push the last section in. How do I fold it ?

A: Lossen the bottom wing nut and push the legs its a little tricky if not turn it upside down andd try

Q: 7. what's the maximum arm load capacity??

A: The maximum load on the stand is 44 lbs. However, the arm would hold much less.

Q: 8. How heavy is the stand?

A: Under 10 pounds.

Q: 9. What is the leg diameter? i want to buy casters for this stand.

A: The leg diameter is just about 1".

Q: 10. What's the width of the stand when it's collapsed and closed on the foot end? I'm trying to figure out whether it'll fit in my light stand guess. I,e How wide is are the legs when it's closed?

A: You will need a clearance of 11.5'' x 22'' when the feet are closed to pack your Impact C-Stand with Quick Release Sliding Leg (Chrome). I measure the sliding leg from the tension knob to the edge of the foot.
