Fast and wide, the XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR is a 24mm-equivalent wide-angle lens designed specifically for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras. Two aspherical and two extra-low dispersion elements are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. Both a Nano-GI coating and HT-EBC coating are also used to control ghosting and flare for enhanced contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Complementing the optics is a floating focus system that benefits autofocus speed and also maintains consistent performance throughout the focusing range. Additionally, the lens body is also weather-sealed to support working in trying environmental conditions.

Wide-angle prime lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 24mm equivalent focal length.

Notably fast f/1.4 maximum aperture affords increased control over depth of field and greatly benefits working in low-light conditions.

Two extra-low dispersion elements are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity.

Two aspherical elements control distortion, curvature of field, and spherical aberrations, which helps to improve sharpness and realize more accurate rendering.

Nano-GI (Gradient Index) coating has been applied to lens elements and alters the refractive index between the glass and air in order to better suppress lens flare and ghosting for diagonal incident light.

HT-EBC coating has also been applied the entire surface of each element to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

A quick and quiet autofocus motor pairs with a two-group floating focus system to achieve precise focus and consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, from the 5.9" minimum focusing distance to infinity.

Integrated depth of field scale benefits working with zone focusing and pre-focusing techniques.

Weather-resistant design includes nine different seals in eight areas to prevent dust and moisture from entering the lens and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what does it mean by (35mm equivalent) ?

A: The Fujifilm X series of camera utilizes a smaller APS-C-sized sensor, sometimes referred to as a crop-sensor. What it means is that the focal length given on an XF lens has to be multiplied by 1.5 due to the APS-C sensor, so 16 x 1.5 = 24mm if you were shooting with the larger (full-frame) sensor. Fujifilm does not currently offer a full-frame sensor in their mirrorless line of cameras/lenses. Hope that helps.

Q: 2. Is it sharp at f/1.4?

A: Yes this lens is sharp at f/1.4.

Q: 3. What does WR stand for?

A: WR stands for Weather Resistant . The lens has many seals to protect it from dust and moisture. These lenses will be much more resistant to hard work when used outdoor.

Q: 4. My Fujifilm XF 16mm f1.4 lens is made in the Philippines. When did it stop being made in Japan? (I got just got the lens Dec 2020)

A: As per our records, this lens was made in Japan. However, that is always subject to change at any time and without notice.

Q: 5. Does the lens Made in Japan or where else ?

A: I ordered this lease thinking it was made in Japan, but its made in the Philippines. The one made in Japan is older I believe, youre better off buying used if you want the Japanese made.

Q: 6. Does it come with a lens hood?

A: Yes, this lens will come with a hood.

Q: 7. how is this lens for Video ? any distortion ?

A: Yes....have used it quite a bit. This is one of the 3 XF lenses that has an option for good manual focus which is preferred for cinema style focus pulling. The other 2 are the 14mm and the 23mm 1.4.

Q: 8. Can I use a stand filter or do I need to buy the slim version?

A: I use a standard filter and get no vignetting with the optional rectangular Fuji lens hood. I would buy a slim filter if you plan on stacking another filter on though.

Q: 9. If you already owned the 10-24 f4, do you think springing for another $1000 lens that sits in the middle of this focal range is justifiable? Asking the question another way: is the step up from the 10-24 that substantial?

A: I own and love both, the 10-24 definetly gets used more as a wide angle lens great for landscape and architecture but is very difficult to use in dark situations, the 16 1.4 is amazing, focuses fast, bokeh is beautiful, amazing at night and it's super sharp, definetly a keeper for me along with the 35 1.4, 56 1.2 & the 23 1.4. hard to compare these two lenses as I use them both in very different situations, either way both lenses are superb but I'm partial to fast prime lenses rather than zooms, I recently bought a rokinon 12mm f2.0 and gave my 10-24 to my gf, the rokinon is manual focus but At this focal length I'm shooting focused at infinity anyways, it is sharp, wide, shoots great in dark situations and is really affordable.

Q: 10. Hi, anyone tried this lens for astrophotography? I'm curious whether the lens shows any coma (aka comatic aberration; aka distorted stars) wide open?

A: Yes. It's an awesome lens and does show coma in the corners wide open at 1.4. However, once stopped down to 2.8 the coma completely disappears. I've had great success with Milky Way photos and this lens, brilliant colors coming through in the stars - they're not too hot. But ya, definitely don't shoot nightscapes at 1.4 unless you're okay with coma in the corners, play around different apertures or just go straight to 2.8 if you want to be sure there will be no coma.

I rarely do reviews, but felt warranted on this one. This lens is superb in sharpness corner to corner. Overall image quality is some of the best I’ve seen in a prime of this focal length and I really don’t have anything to nitpick about at all. Build quality is very solid and also the clutch mechanism from switching to manual focus feels very nice. Rarely do I get a lens straight out of the box that impresses me this much. This is now my go to for sharp wide-angle landscape images on the Fuji system.

This lens is amazing. Image quality, construction, handling, even the push-pull manual focus. I love it all.

WR, good price and compact size all add to this great product. It's a must have for your Fujifilm.

I waited and waited for months reading and watching reviews. And even though they all praised this lens, I waited until two weeks ago. I love this lens. I've only had it less than a week. But it's is definitely one of Fujifilm's best lenses.

Color, sharpness, micro contrast are all there, like many of fujifilm's excellent lenses and the focus distance is closer than expected. This is a MUST have lens if you are in the system along with the 56 f/1.2. If there is a complaint, it's that it's a slightly older lens so the AF is a hair slower than their newer lenses like the 23 f/2 for example. I'm shooting on an X-E3 so that doesn't have the latest AF system however.

This is a beautiful lens and I could not be happier. The sharpness, color, contrast are fantastic, and the amount of fun I am having with the lens is already worth the price. It is simple the best lens for me as I can get environmental portraits, street shots, and landscapes.
