Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will a 1.4 telextender work with this lens?

A: Sorry, no. Telextenders work best with extreme (expensive) telephoto primes with fast f/2.8 apertures. They cannot work with consumer lenses like this with an effective f/11 stop. If you try to mount this, the glass elements most likely will hit and damage each other. Even if you succeeded in mounting, the lens would be so dark, you could not focus and the image quality, sharpness wise, would be very poor.

Q: 2. Will it work on a Canon C-100 video camera?

A: Yes. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens would work with the Canon C100.

Q: 3. age old confusing question. tried researching but no clear answer. do ef-s lenses compensate for the sensor crop factor in terms of mm in focal length? I know this lens does not work on full frame but if it did, would it be something like a 25-230?

A: To answer your question, I just did a test. I zoomed my EF-S lens to 50mm, and compared the picture to my 50 mm EF lens. Both were identical, so no, EF-S lenses do not compensate for the crop factor. This lens will behave like a 88-400 on a crop sensor camera. If it would fit on a full frame, it would shoot like a 55-250 lens, just as it is designated.

Q: 4. Where is this Canon lens made?

A: According to our records, the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens is made in Malaysia. Please note that this is subject to change at any time.

Q: 5. Is compatible for 6d mari ii

A: Unfortunately, the Canon EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS STM is not compatible with the Canon 6d Mk II. The Canon 6d Mk II does not accept EF-S mount lenses, and does not work well with crop-sensor lenses even in the EF-mount.

Q: 6. Is this lens good for studio strobe work, where the ambient light is low?

A: The EF-S 55-250mm is a telephoto lens that requires lots of light and is used mostly for outdoors. I would recommend a faster lens for low light, a Sigma f/1.8 18-35mm lens for Canon in your studio. This lens produces very impressive pictures under low light conditions and has comparable DXO Mark scores equivalent to $2,000 lenses.

Q: 7. Is compatible with canon 80d?

A: This lens works exceptionally well with the 80D. Canon's IS system really shines in this application.

Q: 8. Can this be used with a canon 20d?

A: I don't see why not. The 20D is a crop body designed for EF-S lenses. The STM refers only to the focusing mechanism.

Q: 9. Will this lens fit the Canon Rebel XT1?

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Rebel XTi and all other Rebel models and APS-C format DSLR's from Canon.

Q: 10. What is STM ?

A: It refers to the lens's internal stepping motor (STM) which is used to facilitate smooth and quiet autofocusing. It is esp. good for making videos. I use that lens on my EOS 70D, and it works quite nicely.

I am a new photographer and just bought this to accompany my 55mm lens. I am very pleased with the clarity and the distance this lens provides me. I can get in closer to marching band and sporting events my children are in.

This lens can capture amazing detail at a distance. I love it. I really like how I can get a beautiful, soft blurred background and yet have every last fine detail of my subject stand out. For example, at the zoo, I was able to get beautiful images of animals where you can see all the fine details of their feathers or fur, making you want to reach out and touch the photo. The image stabilization feature really helps a lot. I can capture very sharp photos of fast-moving objects, even while zoomed all the way in and handholding the camera. It has been fun to take pictures of faraway objects and look at them later, to discover details that I couldn't see with the naked eye at the time. If you like to take photos of animals or fill the frame with distant details, this is a good lens.
