The Formatt 138mm HD/DV Soft Effect Clear 2 Filter is designed with the HD (High Definition) shooter in mind. Today's HD lenses are ultrasharp and often generate an image that is not as flattering to a subject as one might desire. This incredible technological breakthrough gives HD shooters the touch of softness they want but with no resulting loss of contrast or detail.

Using a sophisticated series of tiny "lenslets", the filter allows a certain amount of light to pass through unaffected. The rest is bounced around inside creating spherical aberration, avoiding the risk of secondary focus at short focal lengths, as may happen with other so called "soft" filters. These lenslets eliminate the moire patterns often generated by the highly sensitive surfaces in today's HD lenses and digital sensors.

Formatt, a company with three generations of professional filter-making experience produces every filter to the highest technical standards. The finest materials, together with state of-the-art production technology have resulted in a standard of optical excellence unmatched anywhere else.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could you use two of these connected to a Thunderbolt hub? Or does each device require it's own Thunderbolt bus?

A: Each Blackmagic Design UltraStudio HD Mini will need to be connected to its own Thunderbolt bus.

Q: 2. Can you use the teleprompter feature and record simultaneously?

A: No, the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can only be operated in one mode at a time.

Q: 3. does this only record 1 input?

A: It has x1 SDI input. The unit is designed to work with their multi-input switchers; should work with SDI output devices.

Q: 4. Can I use a wireless remote control to turn this camera on/off if it’s mounted high and unreachable?

A: No, the Canon XF100 Digital Camcorder has no wireless remote for camera controls from afar.

Q: 5. Can this device be used as a webcam ?

A: Since the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD has an HDMI output, you could technically feed that output into a capture card, and then select that feed as a web camera source. However, since the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD doesn't have a camera, or any direct encoding support, it is not really made to be used as a web camera, and using it as such is not something we would recommend.

Q: 6. I see a lip around this device. Would i be able to cut a whole in my desk to make it flush-mount?

A: The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD - BH #BLHDSHD is designed for tabletop use. If one was skilled, precise, and careful enough I suppose this would be possible.

A: This camcorder records sound as 2-Channel Linear PCM Audio (16-Bit/48 Khz) which is embedded within the video file.

A: It is officially unknown. An educated guess is 75 degrees.

Q: 9. Can this record over the air broadcast signals?

A: Yes, the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can record OTA signals via the HDMI input onto the EXT disk and SD card.

Q: 10. I have a converter for my HV40 will it fit the XF100?

A: I am sorry but a lens converter for the Canon HV40 cannot fit the XF100 for it's mounting thread diameter is too small. We have several converters for the XF100: see them on it's B&H page under AccessoriesLens Attachments and Converters. Here is one example of a wide converter. Helder MW-4558 58mm HD 0.45x Wide Angle Conversion Lens B&H # HEMW4558 It is a wide converter that is highly rated, affordable and in stock.
