A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens is compatible with the TC-14E II and TC-14E III teleconverters with restrictions, ( Autofocus is available only with cameras that offer f/8 support. These include the Z 7, Z 6, D5, D500, D4/D4S, Df, D850, D810/D810A, D800/D800E, D750, D600/D610, D7100, D7200 and D7500. For cameras that do not support f/8, teleconverters can be used without autofocus.). And the TC-17E II, TC-20E II and TC-20E III teleconverters will work on the lens without autofocus.

A: I have been using the Nikkor 80-400mm zoom with my Nikon D800 camera for about 18 months and love the combination, especially for taking shots of wildlife. The combo is light enough to carry and can be hand-held. (A big 600mm primary is just too much to carry most of the time.) Having the zoom helps you find your subject quickly.
