The Smart Videohub CleanSwitch 12 x 12 6G-SDI from Blackmagic Design is a mixed format router with 12 6G-SDI inputs and 12 6G-SDI outputs for routing any combination of SD, HD, Ultra HD 4K, and DCI 4K video. The CleanSwitch model allows for re-timing of SDI feeds, so all switches are timed to happen between frames. It supports 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 color sampling and 10-bit processing for smoother gradations. Housed in a 1RU frame, the Smart Videohub is ideal for use in both large broadcast systems or portable mini racks for live productions. A built-in LCD lets view your sources directly on the router itself, with simple push buttons and spin knob provided for control. Routing can also be controlled using dedicated remote panels or over Ethernet using the included software for Mac OS X and Windows. You can even use the available iPad app to change routing over your wireless network.

Note: IEC power cable is not included.

Q: 1. Is this good for video live streaming switching?

A: Yes if the switches inputs have the same resolution and frame rate the switch will be clean.

Q: 2. HelloI want to replace a Kramer 4X4 matrix with this one.If i use this on am i going to have any delay when switching between inputs or is it better to use the non CleanSwitch version?I ask this because i suppose (i hope i am wrong) that if this one tries to keep all devices in synced in frame it may cause a bit of delay.Is it the proper device to use as a matrix/switcher on live events?thanks

A: We use this unit and also the older version that does not clean switch. Biggest difference between the two for us is the newer one does not lose signal while switching, which is nice, but it does add about 1 frame delay to the signal. We run our camera line through this and then to the ATEM switcher out to a projector, and there is a slight delay between what happens live on stage and what is seen on screen.

Q: 3. If I have 12G SDI cables connected to this, but send a 6G signal (4K 30p), would there be any problems? I assume everything would work just fine, no?

A: 100%. A end-user would just be future proofing their feed. Great workflow practice.

Q: 4. Can I input a 720 signal and then send it out as 1080?

A: No, Its merely a router and not an up converter. However, you can have two inputs of different resolutions. But it wont convert the signal. It will pass them as they are.

Q: 5. Would it work if I connected a wireless receiver to a sdi input on this?

A: If the wireless receiver sends the Videohub a supported SMPTE standard SDI signal then yes, it should work.

Q: 6. Will this switch act as a signal booster? I have very long cable runs planned to connect to this cleanswitch, and then another fairly long cable run from the cleanswitch to an ATEM switcher. I need it for its routing abilities too, but my biggest concern is signal loss.

A: All SDI signals will be reclocked in the Videohub. If the signal properly makes it to the Videohub you will be able to transmit a clean output signal.

Q: 7. Will this device carry the audio over sdi?

A: Yes it will

Q: 8. will this box pass closed captioning information?

A: Yes SDI closed captions are supported.

Q: 9. I currently have 3G cables running to all my cameras and devices, does this unit accept the 3G signals or what?

A: As Blackmagic Design has stated, 3G cables would be fine for short distances of 6G signals or at greater lengths for 3G signals. If you plan on using 4K content, you may want to consider upgrading cables if your distance is significant.

Q: 10. Can you create Macros with the CleanSwitch 12X12 ?

A: Not on the CleanSwitch itself but macros may be created using the VideoHub Smart Control panel.

Great unit. Probably thirty hours on unit. Ran 100 feet of cable outside, into a coupler, and then another 100 feet of cable inside to end point BMD 6G-SDI to HDMI 4K unit. It was raining that day and in the 40s outside. I could not see any degradation in the audio or video. Never lost signal even for a second. I was sending hdmi video and analog audio over 3G-SDI cable. Number 1 & 8 are up. Numbers 2-7 are down. This was my first experience with SDI & BMD equipment. Note; For this unit, ON is down, Off is up. 5

Because of this piece of equipment our infrastructure will be much more stable. Gone are all the DAs we used to split signals and send them where they needed to go. It was easy to set up. I'm glad we made the purchase. 5
