The VariZoom CinemaPro "Talon" Master Control Kit is a motion head designed to make precise movements with high levels of precision and repeatability. Q: 1. "Except for full motion control capability, the Jibstick Jr manual kit has all of the electromechanical performance of other kits." What does this mean? Does it come with the ability to pan and tilt? The line "except for full motion control" gives me the impression that pan and tilt ability are limited in some way?

A: According to VariZoom, full motion control means repeatability, being able to stop and start in the same programmed position, know where the head is, or repeat actions over and over. This kit has the same pan and tilt capability as the others, but the controller has no positional data, so it is a live manual controller only with speed and smoothing control. Also does not have built-in lens control.

Q: 2. Can a DJI ronin 2 be mounted to this? If so, can it be mounted in an upright position? Thanks in advance.

A: Yes, the DJI Ronin 2 3-Axis Handheld/Aerial Stabilizer can mount to the VariZoom QuickJib with Extension and operate upright when using the Ronin 2 universal mount.

Q: 3. can this head be used manually as an underslung front control pan head?

A: The VariZoom VZ-MC100 Pan and Tilt Control System is designed to use with Jibs from Varizoom. It is controlled only with the included Joystick. If you wanted to use it on a tripod it does support this configuration. See image https://bit.ly/3Hc6vZ1

Q: 4. How long does it take to go from in the case to operational with this Jib? Does it come with/ have a recommended case?

A: This kit includes a Crane Case along with cases and bags for the various components included. As far as how long it will take to set up, there will certainly be some learning curve with the set up to start. I would imagine it will take a sometime once you first start using it and as you get more familiar with the product you'll be able to have it up in a matter of minutes down the line.

Q: 5. Could this hold an Alexa Mini with batteries,monitor, cage and a follow focus?

A: Yes, the VariZoom VZQUICKJIB QuickJib can hold camera builds up to 50 lb, such as a fully built ARRI ALEXA Mini when using the proper counterbalance of weight. Please note that you will need either a compatible fluid head or motorized pan and tilt head to mount a camera to the jib. These items will need to be included when determining your max weight.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with the Canon XF300? The manufacturer's web site doesn't list it on their compatibility chart and I've read that some other controllers don't work with the Canon XA/XF range.

A: The VZRL100 works with my XF305's. The more advanced remotes also work for zooming and record start/stop but the focus and iris controls don't. I recommend it assumming the XF300 and XF305 are pretty much the same. Kevin Segraves

Q: 8. Would this kit handle a small camera (Sony PXW-X200) and teleprompter assuming the combined weight is below stated limit. Will it be able to balance with the prompter on? Thanks!

A: We must admit not hearing about using a teleprompter on a crane before. But that is not to say it cannot work. In certain situations it may be the perfect or only solution. That being said, we have the opinion that since the Sony PXW-X200 weighs 10 lbs and the payload of the VariZoom QuickJib Kit is 50 lbs, as long as the teleprompter is less than 40 lbs, you will be good. There may be an outside chance the baseplate cannot go back far enough to balance. In that case, a longer base plate would solve the problem.

Q: 9. What is a good track to use with this crane?

A: The dolly on this unit does not have track options. It is designed for transport.

Q: 10. How much ground (floor space) and operational space around the Jib does this need?

A: According to Varizoom the center of the included dolly to the dolly leg is 22 inches. The jib itself will go up 10 feet, you would want to have at least that much clearance around it. To be safe you may even want to be in the 15-20 foot range.
