A: In 1999 I had bought the new state of the art AF 80-400. Loved it. took to canada, Vancouver Island, and every where between there and so cal. Love it. it had a accident and I replaced it with the AF-S 80-400 model and love it even more. My understanding is there were no upgraded models between. AF-S also is a full frame lense. No issue using in medium format I do, but if you ever upgrade your camera to full frame you don't have to upgrade the lense. Hope this helped.

A: The Nikon CL-M2 Lens Case (Black) is designed to hold the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED Lens which is 3.54 x 8.76" / 90 x 222.5 mm. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens is 3.76 x 7.99" / 95.5 x 203 mm. While we cannot test this combination, it is our opinion that there is no issue as to fitting.

A: I see now reason why it would not work with the D300S

A: When mounted on 3000 or 5000 series body the 80-400 sense will not automatically focus. It will work if you are ok with manually focusing. The 7000 series bodies will communicate fully with the 80-400.Hope this helps!
