Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. zoom h5 play sideloaded audio files?

A: Yes it will. It can playback files from an SDHC memory card.

Q: 2. Fits with DSLR attached ??

A: Tamron Lens Case for SP 150-600mm Lenses is just to protect your lens. the fitting is very precise. The bag interior dimensions are H: 11.8 x W: 4.3 x L: 4.3" while the lens dimensions are 4.27 x 10.24".

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the new GH5 Panasonic?

A: This can be used by itself and the audio synced in post or an output can be run directly to the GH5 from the recorder if needed.

Q: 4. Previous Question: “Can I plug into a multbox or other conference room audio systems for clean audio?” How or which cables settings are needed to plug into audio mixer?

A: The Zoom H5 Portable Handy Recorder can be connected to a mult box (press box) using a standard XLR female to XLR male cable. The output signal on most press conference boxes is mic level or it may be switchable between mic and line level. Use the mic level input setting on the H5 and adjust the settings as you would when recording with any microphone. When recording the output from a mixer, the signal is going to be line level. The cables you will need are dependent on the output connections that are available on the mixer. It may be 1/4" TS or TRS, or RCA, but typically will have left and right outputs on the mixer, so you can connect to both XLR inputs on the H5.

Q: 5. can the XYH-5 capsule be decoupled into a L/R mono, or does it always have to be in stereo?

A: I don't believe it can be decoupled, however if you have audio editing software you can separate the channels that way.

Q: 6. Does the safety channel also work for the XLR inputs? or only L and R?

A: The safety recording (Backup file) feature of the Zoom H5 4-Input / 4-Track Portable Handy Recorder with Interchangeable X/Y Mic Capsule is only available for recordings using the L/R input, not the XLR.

Q: 7. Can you input one shotgun mic into channel 1 and split into two channels internally with different levels one 0db, -20db for safety track?

A: When using the L/R input, in addition to the recording at the set input level, the recorder can also record a separate file at alevel 12dB below. For example, this backup can be used if the recording level was set too high, causing distortion.

Q: 8. What cables should I absolutely purchase with this?

A: I record from RODE wireless lav mics. So, a couple mini-plug to XLR adapters have come in handy.

Q: 9. What kind of warranty do you offer?

A: This product has a one year, limited manufacturer's warranty.

Q: 10. Does the Zoom H5 perform well as a field sound mixer?

A: I can't say anything bad about his device. I am not 100% happy with this. It has like background noise all the time. Is not perfect. Before I am using the sound usually I have to put the sound from the zoom in Soundforge to extract that field noise(Otherwise is not really good). After that is much better. For this money I think is the best option. When I bought it nobody said something about this field noise in the background. In the future i want to buy a more professional one. Something from Sound Devices. That one is 1600$. Sow it's a big difference. You get what you pay for. All the time.I hope my review it will help you to make a decision.
