Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. EF 2x II vs III for compatibility and IQ with Mark IV and todays Canon lenses?

A: The EF 2X III would have an improvements over the EF 2X II in terms of optical design, weather sealing, better AF accuracy and its Fluorine coatings. When the EF 2X III is paired with the 5D Mark IV and the current 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens or its predecessor , you would retain autofocus. For lenses such as the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L Lens, focus would be performed manually.

Q: 2. Can this be used with a 40d?

A: Yes, the Canon Extender EF 2X III may be used on the Canon EOS 40D DSLR camera as long as the extender is used on a compatible Canon L-series telephoto lens.

Q: 3. With Canon T6s with EF 500mm f/4 will the auto focus will still work with 2X teleconverter?

A: You will not have auto focus

Q: 4. Can the Canon EF 2X III be stacked with another EF 2X III to extend the focal lenght of the lens?

A: No it can not be stacked

Q: 5. III vs the original. If I am not concerned with autofocus speed, I keep reading "better", but how much is the difference in IQ?

A: The EF Extender 2X III has newer Fluorine coatings on the glass elements to protect against smudging or fingerprints and would offer similar image quality to the previous versions.

Q: 6. Is this Canon Extender 2X III able to use with the Sigma 100-400mm lens?

A: I am not familiar with the Sigma lens. The F stop is needs to be F2.8 at maximum. Then it will work. Canon bodies will not auto focus at any F stop higher than F8

Q: 7. Does it work on an SL3

A: The EF Extender EF 2X III does work on the Canon SL3 with selected Canon lenses in general. However, autofocus capability would be based on the maximum aperture of the lens being mounted there.

Q: 8. Is there a EF convertor for a zoom telephoto lens? I have a L series 100-400 F 5.6 Lens.

A: The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L lens is compatible with this Canon 2x extender, but the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L Mark II is not compatible.

Q: 9. Will this work with the new Canon EF 18-80 Cinema Zoom Lens?

A: The Canon 70-200 CAE70200EF is compatible with no visible vignetting on my testing. The rear glass element with not interfere with adapter. On the other hand, even tho the 18-80 CAE1880EF will "fit", the real glass element will interfere with the expander and wont work. So although is not listed on the compatible light, the 70-200 is compatible.

Q: 10. I just received my Canon extender EF 2x II and realized quickly that it doens't fit on my Canon EF 24-105mm EF IS L. I read that using the Extension Tube EF 12 II will connect the two. Is this okay? I am also reading that it may cause vignetting and lower light. Is it worth buying or should I return my Extender to you?

A: You can try it but what you read is correct, you will get significant vignetting and lose several stops of light. I wouldn't think it would be worth it.
