This 82 Formatt Hitech HD ND Glass Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 5-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. This filter is constructed from Schott Superwite glass to maintain high optical clarity and is set within a 4mm-thick metal filter ring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used with Pomfort Live Grade?

A: This device becomes an input video stream to the system. BMD provides record software to write it to disk and Livegrade could process that in post. However for a real time grading, Livegrade would need to be able to read the video input stream directly. I do not have livegrade, so I agree you need to contact them.

Q: 2. Can you recommend a mic I can use for general outdoor (nature) video shoots. Most of my video recording is done outdoors using natural sound? So far the built in mic has been adequate, but wondering if there's a better alternative. Thanks.

A: Hi Carl,I highly recommend the Audio-Technica AT-8022 for the reasons you mentioned. That is the mic that B&H recommended to me. Night and day difference from the built-in mic. I am a professional musician and use that exact camera-mic setup to record my live performances. People have told me that it feels like you are actually there. It is a stereo mic with a nice X-Y pattern to capture enough ambient noise. It has a more focused sound field the closer it is placed to the subject and gets wider as distance increases. All the necessary accessories are included for camera mounting. Well worth the money. If you would like to hear what the mic sounds like, please visit my YouTube channel: Kevin Baricar. Hope this helps your decision.-Kevin

Q: 3. Can this be shot in Pal mode?

A: Yes, there is a PAL version of this camera.

Q: 4. What version of DaVinci Resolve comes with the UltraStudio HD Mini? The free version that can also be downloaded from the website or the Studio version?

A: You may download the free version of Resolve at any time from the website.

Q: 5. What file type is produced by this camera?

A: MPEG-2 ... I use Vegas Pro with excellent results

Q: 6. Is this camera compatible with a wireless remote to turn it on/off if it’s mounted high and unreachable?

A: No, the Canon XF100 Digital Camcorder cannot be operated by a wireless remote when out of operating distance.

Q: 7. What memory cards work with this camera? the two I got from the recommended products were LEXAR Platinum II 32 GB SDHC cards, but the manual says the camera needs a minimum of 64 GB per card, and I get a memory card warning when I put these in.

A: Dump the 32. Get 128. Then you'll have no problems, just fun.

Q: 8. Can a wired remote be used to control zoom and recording functions?

A: Yes you can and it makes a world of difference. I currently own an old varizoom controller that ran my old Canon Xl2 and it works perfectly.

Q: 9. Will a reference video take the place of a TBC when capturing from nonprofessional composite decks?

A: Reference video inputs should only be used for timing purposes. They don't affect recording on the Blackmagic Design UltraStudio HD Mini (BH #BLUSHDMINI) and shouldn't be used as a replacement for a time base corrector.

Q: 10. Will an Azden SGM 1X mic work with the Canon XF 100?

A: Yes, the XF 100 accepts XLR microphones like the Azden SGM 1X mic natively. You can use this 1.5' cable: Kopul Studio Elite 4000 Series XLR M to Angled XLR F Microphone Cable - 1.5' (0.45 m)
