Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this the best mic for recording a quartet or small choir or group of instrumentalists where the microphone will be 5 to 10 feet way from the performers?

A: This is an excellent microphone for the price and well suited for your stated application.

Q: 2. I have a SHURE BLX4 J10 and BLX1 J10. Is it possible that the Shure SM31FH is compatible with these?

A: Yes. These cmponents are compatible.

Q: 3. Does this come with everything you need except the speaker?

A: Yes, although you may wish to connect it to a mixer before outputting to a speaker for greater output control.

Q: 4. Hi, I was just wondering. Is it possible to connect Shure VP88 to Sony PCM-D100? And how? And is there any disadvantage in doing that? (recording quality, etc.) All the best, Emil

A: The Shure VP88 can be used with a portable recorder such as the D-100 when set to stereo mode and using the internal battery power. To connect to the 3.5mm input on the recorder would require the included Y cable and additional adapter cable. There would be no disadvantage, however the PCM-D100 is designed primarily for use with the internal mics, and a mic such as the Shure would benefit from a unit with XLR inputs and higher quality preamps.

Q: 5. does this need phantom power?

A: Yes, the CAD GXL1800 Side-Address Studio Condenser Microphone does require phantom power.

Q: 6. What could I use for wind protection for this? Something like a rycote is preferred.

A: If being used on stereo bar for a Spaced Pair or ORTF setup, you could use two of the Rycote Baby Ball Gag's and their additional windjammers, B&H # RYBBG20 and BH #RYBBGWJ. If looking to do an XY inside of a blimp, the closest option we offer is the Rycote Stereo Cyclone Kit 1,B&H # RYCXYK1. However please note it is sized for a 3'' in length mic and the KSM are 5.75'' and may not fit properly.

Q: 7. Does the KSM141/SL Stereo Pair kit include mic clips in addition to the A27M stereo adapter?

A: Here's what's in the box:Shure KSM141/SL Stereo - Dual-Pattern Instrument Microphone (Pair)Carry Case2 x Foam WindscreensA27M Stereo Microphone AdapterTwo stand adaptersTwo (2) Year Warranty

Q: 8. Can I use this to teach yoga while on the zoom app?

A: The SM31 is a good option for fitness applications like teaching yoga. Since this is just a microphone and not a complete wireless system, you may want to consider purchasing a complete system with the same mic included such as Shure BLX14/SM31 Wireless Cardioid Fitness Headset Microphone System (B&H # SHB14SM31H10).

Q: 9. How close does this need to be to the source? I have to film 3 people at once and was told I could boom a condenser or cardioid mic Can this plug directly into dslr of using battery power?

A: Close proximity (within .5 meter, .25 meter or less is better). This mic is designed for use on ONE person. While one could POTENTIALLY use with more than one person, it is NOT designed for that purpose. Additionally, a "Boom" Mic is typically designed to pick up only one person at a time. To use one microphone for 3 people, the room or environment would have to be very quiet. One Mic for each person is best, or, you may want to consider a "wider angle Boom Mic, such as those listed on B&H as "Stereo Shotgun Mics": https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Shotgun/ci/8533/N/4291086008?filters=fct_stereo-mono_7426%3Astereo

Q: 10. Does this microphone come with a receiver box? I didn't see in the IN THE BOX .

A: The Shure SM31FH Fitness Headset does not include a transmitter or receiver. However the connector hardwired to this unit is compatible with all current Shure wireless systems, and is also offered as a complete package with transmitter and receiver. a href= http://bhpho.to/1sUWR6a target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1sUWR6a/a

This mic is a great all-around, general purpose mic and is my go-to for field recording. I've just purchased a second one because my first (purchased in 2009) stopped working after it fell into the Gulf of Mexico earlier this year (2015). It works great shoe-mounted on an ENG camera which is how I've used it primarily. Lately I've been pistol gripping it for audio only interviews. I usually put a dead-kitten on it. Shot a documentary with it in West, Texas where the winds are fierce and the dead-kitten cut the wind-noise to near nil. Not a good mic for a boom pole. It's very heavy. Love the pickup pattern of this thing. It has a broad, but still very clear sweet spot so you don't have to be so surgically precise when pointing it at someone like you do with shotguns.

I have owned many mics over the years including the AKG C1000 which is the only other contendor in this category. I can honestly say the M3 now sets the standard for mics such as this. Low noise, great sound and cool features such as a high pass filter and battery status LED. The fact that you can use it on phantom power or battery for location work makes this an unbeatable deal. If you need a multi purposes mic for recording or live use, you cant go past the M3 in my opinion. Amazing value.

This is a very affordable mic, its built like a tank and sounds very natural. I own three of them. its the sm57 of condenser mics, its good for just about anything except really low frequency instruments, and I dont find it flattering with voices, but I could live with it. Its great for guitar cabs, it gives you a bit more flexibility and clarity than an sm57, but without the hype you tend to get with condenser mics. Dont loose the mic clip, its quite different from the mic clips. I would recommend this mic to anyone.

I use this for close up recording when I shoot video. During closeups, my sound man holds this close to the source and I get fabulous full, rich sound. No regrets with this purchase.

I used a pair of these mics for recording a Beach Wedding. With the mics lowcut filter enabled, they worked extremely well to minimize the background high wind and surf noise while still picking up the minister, groom, and brides voices. I am extremely happy with the results I got. The only caveat I might mention was the need to remove the small washer inside the M3 mic so the XLR cable mic connector could insert into the mic fully and lock on.
