Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does it work with the canon 5d mark II? what cable do i need for Shure SM57-LC Microphone to work with my 5d?

A: Not sure it depends on what type of audio inputs your camera has. The mic takes a standard xlr connector so it will probably have to be terminated at the other end with something compatible or adapted.

Q: 2. How about feedback? Does it get much feedback?

A: No, the PGA58 is not prone to feedback. Its cardioid polar pattern focuses on the user's voice while rejecting unwanted background noise and delivers a clear and natural tone.

Q: 3. Use for Outdoor Nature Recording yes/no?

A: The SM57 is a dynamic microphone with a flat grill. This allows it to get up close to loud things, to capture those sounds without too much bleed from the environment. It's a classic choice for guitar amps, snare drums, and brass instruments. For recording ambient sounds, you would usually want stereo mics that are more sensitive to quieter sounds. There are many choices available for most sound recorders or cameras with a mic input.

Q: 4. I'm a comedian looking for the best recording device for audience laughter. I have equipment to record my voice, but whats the best device for capturing as much audience laughter as possible?

A: A dynamic mic makes sense for its ruggedness ,but this type of mic is designed for a narrower pick-up and for relatively close distances. Consider an omnidirectional dynamic for stage use in clubs and a variety of live venues: Bogen Communications HDO100 Omnidirectional Dynamic Handheld Microphone B&H # BOHD0100.A recorder may also work well for you: Zoom H1 Ultra-Portable Digital Audio Recorder (Black) B&H # ZOH1

Q: 5. does this grille fit a shure sm58 microphone?

A: We can not guarantee compatibility with an SM58. For a guaranteed replacement for the SM58, here is this grill BH #SHRK143G.

Q: 6. Does this have a mute and on/off button ?

A: Yes, the Shure PGA48 Dynamic Vocal Microphone has an "On/Off" switch.

Q: 7. Can the SM 57 microphone plug directly into my Canon HF 100 HD video camera with a 1/8 (3.5MM) cable?

A: The Shure SM57 can be connected to the 3.5mm input of a camera. For the best sound, it is recommended to use a combination of XLR cable, and specially designed XLR to 3.5mm adapter. The Kopul LMT100 will match the low impedance output of the mic to the high impedance input of the camera. a href= http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD/a

Q: 8. does this need another accessory?

A: This microphone includes a compatible cable. So it is ready to plug directly into an amplifier, etc.

Q: 9. Shure says this doesnt require phantom power.. sooo.. what does that mean? can i plug it into an xlr-usb cable and have it work fine on my pc/mac?

A: An XLR to USB cable alone would not be sufficient to convert the analog output of this mic to a digital signal that a computer can read via USB, so if you plugged it in with just the cable, your computer will not be able to detect the attached microphone and would not be able to use it for recordings. Since it is not a USB mic that has a built-in A/D converter, this item would require the use of an XLR to USB Adaptor (such as the Shure X2U) or other interface connected between the mic and computer.

Q: 10. Can I connect this to my mac to use with garage band?

A: You will need an XLR to USB interface. Don't go with a cable, get an actual interface. Do a search for XLR to USB interface, M Audio makes some great products.

I was using a vocoder with a lower quality microphone and I had a lot of problems with feedback. Since I bought the Shure SM57, all the problems have been solved.

These things are awesome. Simple device with more utility than a Swiss army knife. You can't go wrong with these. Mic anything from drums to vocals to guitar cabs. Can't have enough of them.

I use this as a voiceover mic when on the road and not in the studio. Run it through a Tascam US-200 and then to my laptop via USB. It's built like a tank and a great full-bodied sound with good proximity and excellent off-axis attenuation. Love this mic...and for the bucks, love it even more! You can't go wrong!

This is an exceptional microphone for the kit. In terms of bang for the buck it may be a best value. Good for vocals and instruments. It has been around for awhile. Works well for vocals and recording instruments. Considering the price, every audio kit should have one.
